Sometimes the path we start on is not where we finish, and you have to adapt to the new road. This month we talk with an influencer who turned into an entrepreneur and is changing the game of golf with her mix of humor and style. When you add in her positive mindset you have the makings of a star on the rise. Taking time away from the links and building her business we introduce you to Isabelle Shee!
Joe Cardoso: Let’s start with the game of Golf how did you start and how long did it take you to be hooked?
Isabelle Shee: My dad got my sister and me into the game of golf when I was 12 years old! I got hooked the first time I was able to hit a golf ball into the air.
JC: At what point did you know pursuing a professional career wasn’t what you wanted to do?
IS: I knew I didn’t want to pursue a professional career since I was playing competitively in college because I didn’t thrive under that kind of pressure. I realized that I enjoyed playing golf leisurely much more!
JC: In the words of Deion Sanders “If you look good, you play good” You bring it on the golf course fashion-wise. How did you get the nickname “Sock Girl”?
IS: I got the nickname ‘Sock Girl’ because I always wore really funky socks on the golf course. I love socks because, in an industry where you have to be more conservative, socks help give you a bit of flair and personality.
JC: Take us back to those moments when you decided to become an influencer within the world of golf?
IS: I didn’t decide to become an influencer, it just kind of happened one day. I would say it was just being in the right place at the right time. I’m extremely grateful!
JC: How do you come up with the amazing ideas for content you are putting on social media?
IS: Thank you! I get a lot of inspiration from Tiktok – I look at trends that are happening in different industries and put my own twist on them.
JC: What is it like being your own boss working with your sister and friends?
IS: It’s a dream come true! It’s a lot of work running your own business but there’s nothing else I would rather be doing. it’s amazing working with my sister and best friends – we really help push each other to the next level!
JC: You are big on being positive and positive thinking. During these times that is so important, we see top-flight athletes even taking mental health breaks like Naomi Osaka. How do balance it all?
IS: I’m a huge advocate for positive thinking because I think it’s necessary for success and happiness. It is super important to bring in moments of silence and time for yourself even on a hectic day. I try to meditate twice a day and fit in some type of yoga, it helps keep me sane.
JC: How did you start your company and what do hope for it to become?
JC: I founded Inside Story in 2019. We sell luxury golf socks made with 70% upcycled material – plastic bottles sourced from recycling centers and coffee grounds collected from local coffee shops. Each pair of socks keep out 3 plastic bottles from the environment and the coffee grounds make the socks ultra-soft, sweat-proof, and overall a fantastic golf sock. I aspire for Inside Story to become a household brand in golf one day!
JC: If someone told you 5 years ago this is what you would be doing, you would have said______?
JC: Wow… I’ll do anything it takes to be there!
JC: Without giving it ALL away what are some of the goals you have for this 2nd half of 2021?
IS: We have some cool collaborations coming out soon 😉
Bonus Questions:
JC: You can pick one course in the world to play and 3 players to play with. Where are you playing and with who?
IS: Bandon Dunes with Tiger Woods, Michelle Wie, and Rory McIlroy
JC: One thing most people would never guess about you?
IS: That I actually don’t golf every day!
JC: Who is Isabelle?
IS: Isabelle is an Influencer turned entrepreneur, who aims to bring awareness to the power of positivity.
