HAIL TO THE VICTORS!! It was a great Michigan Wolverine football Saturday as our boys rocked the Penn State edition of the Wolverines revenge tour with a 42-7 win. It was a special day that saw the return of UM legend Chris Webber as honorary captain for the team. It is safe to say this is the team to beat in the Big Ten, and with the LSU loss at home chances for a spot in the College Football Playoff look good. Some key players came back from injury and got some playing time. With the next two games before Ohio State being Rutgers and Indiana it is a clear path for the maize and blue. They said this team was overrated, and the schedule was too hard, Jim Harbaugh is a flop and needs to go. Now after a three-game stretch that most programs would fold under, we are on an 8 game win streak. Once again the Buckeyes found a way to get the W but I for one do not see them as the mean big brother they have been. But when you play a rival anything goes. On to the recap.
Offense: The dink and dunk offense is dead! Or at least I hope it is Shea Patterson had a hand in 3 touchdowns and Karan Higdon rushed for over 100 yards again and is one game away from tying Mike Harts record for 100-yard games in a row. In the last three games, the Wolverines have outscored teams 101-27 this is has been an epic level of dominance. Thoughts of the 1997 team are dancing in my head often. Each week it’s a new playmaker making things happen and showing up making plays. Donovan Peoples-Jones is having a good year and the return of Tarik Black will only make D coordinators around the Big Ten stay up late at night. If they had more time the score would have been bigger the sting of last years loss was top of mind. The offense is clicking and shows no signs of slowing down, with these next two games primed for a Buckeye faceoff.
Defense: Don Brown 2020! Maybe that is a bit much but the D has been the best in the nation and welcomes anyone to prove them wrong. With multiple blitz packages and athletes all over the field, you have nowhere to hide. Rashan Gary is back and adds to the onslaught the Wolverines bring. Chase Winovich leads this group and this help create pressure which leads to opportunities for the secondary to make plays as shown by the interceptions Saturday. It can’t be understated how much the defense made it possible this season for the offense to gel and make mistakes. With the next two games against teams that have struggled this season the revenge tour leaders should have a ball. Don Brown thought about this Penn State game for a year and I bet he had a nice glass of something after the game. Coach Brown seems like a bourbon man.
We are ROLLING and it is all in front of the team if they stick to the game plan and do their jobs. The revenge tour is the perfect name for the year. So far critics and people who doubted this team are nowhere to be found. I hope to see two more dominant wins and a fully focused squad when the Buckeyes come around.
