In recent years, men’s skincare has stepped out of the shadows and into the spotlight, shedding outdated stereotypes along the way. It was seen as a niche concern that is now a booming industry, driven by a growing awareness that self-care isn’t gender-specific—it’s universal. It’s also important as men feel a sense of confidence and pride in looking and feeling good. From rugged beards to smooth complexions, men are embracing routines that boost confidence and health, while brands rush to meet the demand with tailored products.
This isn’t just a trend; it’s a cultural shift, and the numbers prove it: the global men’s grooming market is projected to keep climbing, reflecting a new era where skincare is every man’s game. One of the brands that has stepped into this arena is Lumin started in 2018 by Richard Hong and Darwish Gani based out of Los Angeles. They have a simple approach “We could be boring, snobby, and uptight — because our science and products are so effective. But we choose to never take ourselves too seriously. We are, what we call, “elegantly irreverent” – it’s our own unique cocktail of science, style, and stunts.”
So I received a sample package and got to work to see if these products were effective and good for the everyday man. I work hard long days but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to feel and look my best.
Getting this product to sample was even more exciting after doing a bit of research about Lumin. They seem to be a morally sound company which appeals to me, doing no animal testing. In addition to this, they don’t use ingredients like sulfates or parabens. The sample package came with a daily face moisturizer, dark circle defense, wrinkly defense serum, and charcoal facewash.
Daily face moisturizer – This has a nice texture and rubs in well unlike other moisturizers that can leave a film or be very thick to absorb in your skin
Dark Circle Defense – tingles in the right way when you know it’s working, after a week of use my eyes felt more rejuvenated, and less tired, and dark circles have lightened up
Wrinkly Defense Serum – Easy to use, one pump and apply over moisturizer. This did make my skin feel noticeably more healthy and wrinkles seem a little less defined
Charcoal Face Wash – I’ve used several other charcoal face washes and this compares with the others I’ve tried. It lathers up nicely making applying rather easy.
After comparing Lumin to the Kiehls regiment I typically use, Lumin wins. The products we received and were able to test are below along with a little description of my experience with it. More info about each of these and more is available on their website luminskin.com
