There is no way Marvel can end their Multiverse Saga without a proper Avengers vs X-Men fight. It has to happen. As Deadpool said to Wolverine in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie “Let’s give them what they want.”
That’s all fans of the MCU are waiting for. Yes, seeing Professor X, Storm, Cyclops and the rest of the team would be cool but we know that’s coming. Seeing the Fantastic Four would set off alarms but we also know that’s coming as well. Hell, we’ve already seen some of the major characters, and by the time Avengers: Doomsday rolls around, each of those teams should have their solo movies. But we want to see a fight.
Dating back to the original Avengers team-up, there was always some sort of scuffle between the heroes. Thor vs Hulk, Captain America vs Iron Man and how can we forget the epic battle in Captain America: Civil War? This is exactly what the MCU should be building us up to.
In a way, the stage has already been set but in a different version. In X-Men 97, there was a scene where Captain America crossed paths with Rouge in which Rouge sent Cap’s shield flying into the mountains. It’s clear there was some animosity there. While this is not part of the Multiverse Saga, fans watching saw it happen and drew their own conclusions as to what could be next.
And for all the comic buffs out there, there is a good reason why they have faith. It’s expected. What’s going to hurt is that we won’t have the version we want to see. There will be no Iron Man unless Robert Downey Jr comes back as a variant but will it be like it was before he died in Avengers: Endgame?
The X-Men and Fantastic Four with Deadpool going heads up with Cap (I’m still holding out hope that Chris Evans will return), Thor, Hulk, Spider-Man, and others, just the thought should send goosebumps down your spine. This is what getting the rights to the mutants was all about. This is what fans want to see. And the perfect movie to bring this dream to reality is Avengers: Doomsday.
Before their big showdown with Dr. Doom, there needs to be an epic battle between heroes. No one will die but there will need to be an heirarchy set in place. Cyclops is the leader of the X-Men, Cap is the leader of the Avengers, Nick Fury oversees things for his team, and Professor X is the guy for the mutants.
Imagine a Jean Grey vs Scarlett Witch battle. Hulk vs Thing. Spider-Man vs Deadpool, or Wolverine vs Blank Panther. With news that Avengers: Secret Wars will be the end of the Saga, there needs to be some type of Infinity War/Endgame build-up.
With the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, fans are still excited about the future of Marvel. And with the return of RDJ as Dr. Doom, the curiosity level just rose to 10. But there is still work to be done. There are still ideas that should be hashed out. What Marvel is doing is not just for themselves, we as fans have to believe they are doing it for us as well. We’ve waited forever to see the Fantastic Four and X-Men under the Marvel umbrella, and thanks to the success of their first movie with Deadpool & Wolverine, they can only go up for here, right?
While switching focus from Kang to Dr. Doom was a smart move, just maybe they can end the speculation and give their core audience something to cheer about. We saw clips of Deadpool and Thor sharing a scene somewhere down the line. We just don’t know when and where but we know it’s happening.
For years, Marvel has provided fans with what they wanted. We got Black Panther. We got Spider-Man, hell, we even got three Spider-Man’s in the same movie. We now have X-Men and Fantastic Four in the same universe and we got a Deadpool and Wolverine movie. And not just any Wolverine, we got Hugh Jackman back. So please, Kevin Feige, just one more request, give us an Avengers vs X-Men clash.
