An aggressiveness that OGs such as Gordie Howe and Keith Primeau would appreciate.
That spirit carried him from humble beginnings in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, to the San Jose Sharks this upcoming NHL season.
Throughout his career, Kurtis has worked tirelessly to solidify his place among the best of the best.
Playing in the OHL and AHL and Minnesota Wild and New Jersey Devils has led Kurtis to this moment.
With the season now underway against the backdrop of the wrath of COVID-19, Kurtis focuses on playing the game properly.
How are you feeling with the new season?
I am feeling good and want to get to the real competition. Trying to get a good skate in, and it is all about having the right mindset.
What are you looking forward to about San Jose?
The type of team they are. With Coach Boughner, they have a gritty hard style of game and just wanting to compete. That is my style. I just want to be an asset to the team no matter.
How have you been able to adapt with COVID?
Trying to control what I can control. Working and putting in my time since March. You take it day by day.
Outspoken Hero
Additionally, Kurtis is unabashed and unafraid to speak truth to power when on pressing social issues, particularly regarding mental health, LGBTQ equality, and racial justice.
He was one of the first NHL players to publicly comment on the act of domestic terrorism at the capitol and calling out white supremacy.
All around, expect extraordinary actions from Kurtis both on and off the ice.
He has the wit, determination, and passion for the game and for life that makes him a standout in every way.
A 21st-century renaissance man if I ever saw one.
