Week Three of the Karen Read Re-Trial featured numerous witnesses who arrived at 34 Fairview Road around the same time as John O’Keeffe and Karen Read. One key witness was a firefighter who was friends with Caitlin Albert; this firefighter claimed to have heard Karen Read say, “I hit him three times.” However, this was said in front of a Canton police officer who did not include it in his report or arrest Karen Read, raising the question: did she really say it?
No Taillight Found In the morning

A retired Canton police officer also responded at 7 a.m. on January 29, 2022, and used a leaf blower and red solo cups to collect blood and evidence at the scene. They did not find the taillight, even with four inches of snow on the ground at that time.
A meteorologist testified that there was 0.08 inches of snow on the ground at 2 a.m. on January 29. Not a single person leaving the house during that time saw a bright red taillight or a man lying on the front lawn. So if John O’Keeffe was not in the house, where could he possibly be?
Karen dropped John O’Keeffe off by the mailbox and then pulled forward to let the truck behind her stop at the driveway. Julie Nagel came out of the house to inform her brother Ryan Nagel that she didn’t need a ride and would stay at the Albert’s longer.
Is Karen Read guilty? Then why did Tom Kelleher, who lives across the street from 34 Fairview Road in Canton and has a ring camera, not capture any footage of Karen’s car hitting John or of John being placed on the lawn? The Canton Police claimed that the doorbell camera did not pick up anything. Strangely, the police did not find the taillight despite less snow on the ground. They only found a cocktail glass and blood. Using a leaf blower, red solo cups, and a Stop & Shop bag does not seem sanitary for a death investigation.
It’s Yuri for the Commonwealth because Proctor got fired
Then there is Yuri, the Massachusetts State Police sergeant, who deflected questions and would not name Michael Proctor as the lead investigator, even though Proctor was indeed the lead investigator in John O’Keeffe’s death. Neither Yuri nor Proctor visited 34 Fairview Road on January 29. Jen McCabe called Proctor and informed him that Karen had mentioned having a cracked taillight. Yuri interviewed Brian Albert, Jen McCabe, and Matt McCabe at Jen and Matt’s house in Canton, rather than at Brian Albert’s house or the Canton Police Department. Notably, Jen had googled “how long to die in cold” at 2:27 a.m.
Yuri stated he never considered Brian Albert or anyone in the house as suspects. Why? Because the homeowner is a Boston police officer. Additionally, Proctor found a taillight that Yuri had overlooked the previous day.
On Monday, the cross-examination with Alan Jackson and Yuri will continue. The Commonwealth appears to be in a difficult position as they are not calling any of the Alberts or Michael Proctor, the lead investigator, to testify. As we head into Week Four, it looks increasingly likely that Karen Read may be acquitted.
