Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings are underway. This year’s Winter Meetings commenced Sunday and will run through Wednesday. It’s the one time of the year all 30 General Managers are in the same place, and thus can be one of the most news-filled weeks of the offseason.
Though the first big free agent, Jacob deGrom, signed Friday night with the Texas Rangers, more dominoes have fallen since last night. Monday afternoon saw the Mets sign deGrom’s replacement, reigning AL CY Young winner, Justin Verlander, and the Phillies add Trea Turner.
Perhaps the biggest free agent this offseason is expected to arrive at the Winter Meetings tomorrow.

It’s been thought that Judge wanted to get a deal done by the end of the Winter Meetings, which means the clock is about to strike midnight. The Yankees have already been rumored to have offered Judge an 8-year deal worth around $300 million.
Naturally, only being the first offer, one should expect that deal to go up. Ken Rosenthal has reported that it is believed that Judge will eventually receive a 9-year deal.
The two main suitors for Judge are the Yankees and the San Francisco Giants. However, there is always the possibility of a mystery team coming in and sweeping Judge off his feet. Both have made it clear they want Judge but the question may be which team goes to nine years.
If Judge re-signs with the Yankees, he will continue to be the biggest star on the most famed team in baseball. Odds are he would be named captain and become a forever Yankee. However, if he signs with the Giants, he will become the new face of the franchise since Buster Posey retired in 2021.
Whoever Judge decides to sign with, it’s clear that his preseason bet on himself will be paying off huge dividends soon.
