Tom Brady once again announced his retirement exactly to the day he announced his retirement last year. Only to come back a few weeks later to sign with the Bucs go through a divorce and have a 7-9 season with the Bucs. But this retirement wasn’t today about Tampa yeah, he won the Super Bowl in his first season he should’ve retired after that. Today’s retirement was mainly about his entire career mostly spent with the Patriots. The pictures in his Instagram story were mostly from the Patriots today. Maybe only a handful of Bucs pictures so I expect Kraft to have him sign a one day contract a retire a Patriot.
Looking back on Brady’s entire career starting with being drafted in the sixth round in 2000 he really was the underdog. He worked his ass off to get the starting quarterback job and never gave it back to Bledsoe in 2001 after winning the Super Bowl. Those early 2000’s Patriots were dominant great teams, but they really rallied around Brady. The entire team saw what Brady could do and make plays happen. Bledsoe couldn’t do what Brady did in Super Bowl XXXVI against the Rams. That was Brady making the most of the talent around him to get into field goal range. Even in 2003 and 2004 the defense was dominant but again they all rallied around Brady.
Over the years the people were saying Brady and Belichick one can’t win without the other one. Well, as we sit here today only one could win without the other. Belichick is .500 without Brady while Brady won the Super Bowl in his first season with the Bucs in 2020. There was no Patriot Way it was the Brady Way. After he left Belichick went back to his old ways and had the worst season of his Patriots career in 2022.
Gillette Stadium is the house that Brady built. The crowds, the parades, the AFC Championship sendoff rallies before the Super Bowl. The winning everything without Brady none of it would be possible. I think Robert Kraft sees that now and probably regrets letting him leave after the 2019 season. They should’ve done everything they could’ve to keep him. The probably would’ve won another Super Bowl. Now, you’ll see the tributes, statues, and the retirement of his number. They’ll have to open the stadium when he gets inducted into the Patriots Hall Of Fame.
I was eight when he was drafted and wouldn’t be writing about the Patriots if it wasn’t for him. His success has had a great impact on mine and so many others. People my age and younger have no idea what’s it’s like without having Brady in the NFL. It’s like my friend told me today that she was born in 2000 when Brady was drafted, and her daughter will be born when he retires. That’s how long he’s been in the league people born in 2000 are either getting married, have jobs, have kids etc it’s insane. Now, the only times we will see Brady is when he is on Fox broadcasting a game.
This past season he wasn’t happy. He felt like he did in 2019 his last year in New England. The team wasn’t that good enough to win and he was getting close to the end. Well, that day has finally come and he can spend more time with his kids and focus on his family while still doing his Fox commitment.
Robert Kraft wants Brady to sign a one day contract to retire a Patriot. This really his home to him as most of the winning was here. In 2021 he was asked about the one day contract after the Bucs came to New England on Sunday Night Football. This was his response.
“My kids were born on Beacon Street in the city. It’s been an amazing place for me; it still is. I obviously see a lot of familiar friendly faces, and great to see you guys, too.”
