The Fast and Furious franchise always stood out on its own until Fast X. No matter how you feel about the over-the-top action sequences, what they did in Fast X was similar to how The MCU wrapped up their storylines with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. It was a great way to tell the last story of Dominic Toretto and his family.
Dante Reyes is the new Thanos. He’s set on revenge but not looking to kill Dom, he wants him to suffer for what he did to his dad in Fast 5. Thanos was a Mad Titan but he had his reasons for wanting half the population gone. He was a villain we all could relate to and that’s what Dante was in Fast X. We didn’t necessarily like his actions but we understood the reasons behind his motives.
But what stood out the most was that Dom’s tight-knit family was separated. Remember in Infinity War, the Avengers were not a unit thanks to what transpired in Captain America: Civil War. At the start of Infinity War, sub-teams were formed and they were off doing their own thing. Fast X was much of the same.
Roman, Tej, Ramsey, and Han were off in Rome on a fake mission much like Cap, Natasha, and Sam were. Letty was taken and Jacob, in the beginning, well, who knows where he came from. It was the same with Thor and Hulk. Then you had Dom who was alone, like Tony Stark was, and was forced to rely on new alliances while he tried to face Dante alone.
Much like in Infinity War, the reason that Thanos was able to take a victory lap in the first movie was not that he was better, it was because the Avengers were not the Avengers. The Fast and Furious team was not fighting with the likes of Cap and Tony but they still didn’t face Dante as a unit as they had everyone else in previous movies.
Dante had the advantage. He was one man but he was never outnumbered, the same as Thanos. If you want to beat a team, you first must take away what makes them so strong in the first place–unity. By taking everyone in different directions, Dante was able to eliminate all of them with isolation.
Who Will Die In Fast 11
However, by the end of Fast X, we begin to see a change in the tide. Yes, Roman, Tez, Han, and Ramsey appear to be in major trouble after the plane crash but we see hope with the teaming of Letty and Cipher. Plus, there will be a return of Shaw after he saves his mother and how can we forget the classic MCU/Fast X end-credit scene with the return of Luke Hobbs?
At the start of Endgane, the team was defeated but regrouped with a plan. This is the same direction that Louis Leterrier is heading in with Fast 11. Hobbs and Shaw will reunite with Dom. Letty, Cipher and now Gisele will find their way back, and we’re pretty sure that Han, Roman, Tej, and Cipher found a way to escape that plane before it crashed. But then you have the two wild cards in Mia and Brian. Both are off the grid and with the news that Brian would get his proper closure, we’re expecting an appearance somewhere down the line.
Will Brian Return In Fast 11
No, the Fast and Furious family are not superheroes. They can’t shoot lasers, hold enchanted hammers, or fly, but as we’ve noticed in their prior movies, when together, they can’t be beaten. Dante Reyes did a great job of separating them but his choice to make them suffer instead of taking them out will be his downfall.
The MCU did a marvelous job tying up years of great movies and storylines in The Infinity Saga and Fast and Furious did a wise move by adding that same element to Fast X. Thanos and Dante won the first battle but our heroes will have the last word.
