Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson seems to have a hand in everything. He’s (still) a huge WWE Superstar, owner of the UFL, and a major box office draw as an actor. Yet, outside of that, he’s got a bit more under his championship belt. There’s the Project Rock apparel through Under Armour, a tequila line, Teremana, and now a skincare line, Papatui. If you’re looking for a holiday gift guide for the men in your life, the Rock has you covered. Is his latest product for men a great deal for your holiday shopping?
Whether you’re looking for a “stocking stuffer” or a care package for the man in your life, the Papatui line has you covered. The products are easily accessible to regulars of Target, and each product in their offering hits the shelf at $9.99 or less. But are the products really what men are looking for? Let me break down the ones I’ve tried to help you out.
Rejuvenating Facial Toner: 5/5
Ah, the facial toner, the one product most men ignore in their daily routine. However, it is arguably one of the most important. Exfoliating your skin is more than just a “beauty routine.” Yet, the toner does its job as advertised. Your facial pores might be too small to recognize, but once the toner is applied, your skin will look smoother and will help remove any dead skin.
48-hour Antiperspirant Deodorant: 4/5
As a guy who prefers a gel-based deodorant as opposed to the bar stuff, it wasn’t too bad. For it to last 48 hours and continue its pledge to eliminate harmful additives, a gel might be out of the equation. The only issue with Papatui deodorant is, as men, we can be a bit of Neanderthals and apply way too much on days we’re too lazy to shower. The good news is that it isn’t a reflection of the product itself. The bad news is that applying too much antiperspirant it will lead to clumpiness and the potential of a rash. Again, that’s more of a user error than a commentary on the product, but it is something to consider when shopping for the man in your life.
Nourishing Shampoo + Conditioner: 5/5
Good shampoo for men is hard to come by. To be fair, most products for men are. The fragrance is either lacking in scent for men or entirely too strong and the moment it touches your skin, you smell as if you’ve rolled around in an extinguished campfire. Is it weird that a bald man like Dwayne Johnson is pushing a shampoo and conditioner? Sure, but once you get a little chuckle and get over the irony of that, it’s not so bad.
The shampoo and conditioner in one is a great value for under $10. You don’t get the oily feel of your hair, and it’s a lightly scented product.
24-hour Body Lotion: 5/5
The problem with most lotions is thickness. By the time you pump it out of the bottle, you have to play this game, mastering just how much you need. How many times have you gone to lotion your hands and end up rubbing up your arms just to rub it in? What I like about Papatui’s lotion is just how little you need without sacrificing effectiveness. It’s lighter in terms of consistency but doesn’t lose the moist feeling you’d apply lotion for. A little bit goes a long way.
Enhancing Tattoo Balm: 4/5
The tattoo balm is a bit tricky. It’s the exact opposite of the body lotion. The trick is to find the balance. On larger tattoos, it’s easy to apply too much, leaving an oily or sticky feeling. Apply too little, and you have to keep applying more to cover the entire tattoo. Luckily, it is offered in a roll-on form as well, similar to deodorant, but alas, I have not tried it yet and cannot comment on that. With that being said, the noticeable color difference in my tattoos was there, so it did as expected.
Awakening Eye Gel: 3/5
Out of the entire product line, this one was the most disappointing, not from a function standpoint but more of form. The product does do as advertised and reduces puffiness and dark circles; however, it’s the roll-on applicator that needs work. Luckily for Papatui, its competitors in the market typically use the same style design, but that’s where growth needs to apply.
The ballpoint pen-style applicator has the same problem that pens do. Once they dry out, you’re left scribbling until it comes out, only this time you’re scribbling on your face, and if you end up with too much, it is a gel and will feel sticky until brushed off. Now, you could just push the tip down and roll it on your hand to apply it, but why add the extra step. A simple tweak of offering it in another form would be an easy fix. If it came in a container similar to their tattoo balm but smaller to accommodate the cost, it could solve this problem.

Honest products that work. Formulated with the best ingredients without the harmful or ineffective ones. Products based on diligent research and dedication make a noticeable difference in how you look & feel.
So, how does Paptui stack up against its competitors? That’s not for me to decide, but it’s worth trying something new. As a man, good skincare might not be part of the routine, but if you want to gussy up your date night, give the Papatui line a try.
