Money in the Bank is happening. on July 1st at the O2 Arena in London, England. While there have been no participants announced yet, one name who should be in the match and win the whole thing is Gunther. Indie Wrestling/European Wrestling fans know him as Walter. As of this writing, he is currently the WWE Intercontinental Championship. In his first reign, he has currently held that belt for over 233 days.
This idea of him winning the Money in the Bank briefcase came to me while I was watching the 2023 Royal Rumble PLE. He started the Men’s Royal Rumble at the Number One spot and would be a part of the final two in the match. The man across from him would end up winning the match and he is Cody Rhodes. Gunther broke the record for the longest time in the ring during the Rumble where he lasted over an hour. He was made a massive star during this match.
However, he won’t be holding the Intercontinental title that long and here is how I would go about it and it happens at WrestleMania 39 at Sofi Stadium. As wrestling fans know, seeds for matches at WrestleMania tend to happen at the Royal Rumble match. The two guys who eliminated him were Drew McIntyre and Sheamus. These two are very familiar with being in the upper mid-card of the WWE. What makes this even better is you can have Drew McIntyre pin Sheamus. This would be a major benefit to Gunther because he can head into the Money in the Bank event and be strong. Plus, you can have Drew McIntyre turn heel and begin a program with Sheamus where those two can clash at Summerslam.
Since Walter/Gunther has been a part of the WWE, he has been presented as an unstoppable monster. When he debuted for NXT UK back in 2019, he would end up beating then-champion Pete Dunne and would become the new NXT UK Champion. He would end up holding the title for 870 days. Up until weeks ago when Roman Reigns eclipsed that number, Gunther held the longest reign of any title under the WWE umbrella in the modern time. As we mentioned beforehand, he has held the IC title for over 233 days.
Since it’s well known that Roman Reigns is more than likely dropping both the WWE Championship and the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania and is going to probably be more focused on Hollywood, the WWE needs to build someone who can become the face of the company. I would have Gunther tease several times over the next couple of months that he is going to cash in, but I wouldn’t pull the trigger until we get to Survivor Series later this year.
Survivor Series is one of the four major PPVs that the WWE holds every year. It has a history of putting superstars on the map and that in my opinion would be perfect for him to become the new WWE champion.
