This is how I feel about the Green Bay Packers this season.
Over the past 3 years, Matt LaFleur has compiled a record of,
- 13-3
- 13-3
- 13-4
Despite having great regular-season success, The Packers have come up short in the post-season.
- In 2019, they lost in the NFC Championship to the San Francisco 49ers, 37-20
- In 2020, they lost in the NFC Championship to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 31-26
- In 2021, they lost in the 1st round of the playoffs to the 49ers, 13-10.
Green Bay is going into the 2022 season with a lot of key pieces no longer on the sidelines.
Davante Adams signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. They also lost linemen Lucas Patrick and Billy Turner to free agency. Both were a part of the offensive line tasked with protecting Aaron Rodgers. They also lost receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, one of Rodgers’s other favorite receivers, and pass rusher, Za’Darius Smith, who signed with the Minnesota Vikings.
Adams caught 115 receptions, and over 1,500 yards last season. Allan Lazard and Sammy Watkins will look to fill the void left by Adams. Aaron Jones and AJ Dillion had 86 catches between them out of the backfield.
De’Vondre Campbell led Green Bay with 102 total tackles and Adrian Amos had 93 total tackles from the safety position. This is a unit that ranked 10th last season only giving up 328 yards per game.
This is a team that is due to take a step back. Without an elite WR, they won’t be able to put up points as they did in the past. Adams was Rodgers security blanket on 3rd down and in the RedZone. The Packers will struggle to move the ball at times and must find someone inside the 20-yard line to replace Adams. That won’t be easy.
LaFluer will have to be creative to get Rodgers to spread the ball around. I expect the Packers to finish the season with an 11-6 record.
