Dana White revealed that UFC Fight Island would be returning with significant international star competitions.
As Dana White enthusiastically predicts, the destination became so popular with fighters that Abu Dhabi could become The Fight Capital Of The World.
The UFC’s president is planning on taking the sport back to Fight Island by the end of the year.
Yas Islands in Abu Dhabi hosted a series of UFC events back in July. White wants to return there in September or October.
White’s Promise
His promise of Big International Stars hints that the lightweight championship title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje – scheduled for October – will occur in Fight Island.
“Everybody wants to go there now. Octagon girls all wanna go there, everybody wants to go! We’re working on fights right now for the next run…The stuff that we’re doing over there, the infrastructure that’s already been built, the stuff that we’re talking about doing, this place is gonna be a destination…If you are a fight fan, everybody wants to come to Fight Island…It’s fun and it’s a really unique experience right now with all this weirdness that’s going on in the world.” Dana White.
White told TMZ Sports that Fight Island was definitely NOT a one-time event. He’s already booking fights for the UFC’s return to Yas Island in September and October.
“Obviously, a lot of the big international stars will fight over there and…this next trip over there, I’ll probably end up being there for 5 weeks.” Dana White.
White put Fight Island together in mere months. It was the location for massive fights like Kamaru Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal and Alexander Volkanovski vs. Max Holloway.
However, even though the event became a smash hit, there’s a ton of work and cost with the Fight Island cards. Fans wondered if the UFC would ever go back.
Fight Island Comeback
White reaffirms his belief that Fight Island will soon be the top destination for combat sporting events.
“I’m telling you right now, Abu Dhabi is gonna become The Fight Capital Of The World! The stuff that we’re doing over there, the infrastructure that’s already been built, the stuff that we’re talking about doing, this place is gonna be a destination.” Dana White.
UFC has done extremely well exploiting the initial lack of live sports during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While team sports have returned, White will not ease his momentum.
Heading to Abu Dhabi over the past couple of months proved to be a major success. Essentially in a bubble, as virus cases continued to increase, events went off without any significant issues.
The idea of building an entire island to host these events amid a global pandemic was first thought of as Crazy Talk.
However, everything came together, leading to some tremendous bouts in the Middle Eastern nation.
