The Phoenix Mercury are on fire as on Saturday, they went into Chicago and lit it up, beating the Sky 107–86 and showing the league they’re a serious threat. This win didn’t just extend their winning streak to five games, it also kept them undefeated on the road (4–0) and boosted their overall record to 11–4 on the season, which is the teams best start in franchise history.

The Mercury came out with the shots and just didn’t let up. They set a new franchise record with 17 made three-pointers, with six different players hitting at least two each. Sami Whitcomb was on fire early, dropping 17 points with five threes all in the first half. When Phoenix is shooting like that, they’re nearly impossible to stop.
Kahleah Copper added 16 points, playing with fire against her former team. Satou Sabally was efficient as ever, putting up 15 points on 5 – 7 in shooting. Alyssa Thomas kept the engine running with 11 points and 8 assists, doing all the little things to keep the Mercury in rhythm.

Coach Nate Tibbetts said it best after the Chicago win:
“When we share the ball like this, we’re tough to beat. But we know we have to bring that same energy every night.”
Kahleah Copper echoed that mindset:
“We’re locked in right now. We’re having fun, but we’re focused on the bigger picture.”
If the Mercury can keep moving the ball, knocking down shots, and staying aggressive on defense, there’s no reason this win streak can’t keep going.
Kahleah Copper shines in return to Chicago
This game had extra meaning for Copper. Coming back from an injury and her old team to face the Sky, the team she helped win a title with, Copper put on a show. Not just scoring, but grabbing 5 steals and setting the tone on defense.

After the game, she couldn’t resist a little jab on social media, posting “DUBS IN THE MF CHATTTT,” flipping the script on Sky rookie Angel Reese’s own viral catchphrase. Copper’s competitive spirit clearly fueled the Mercury, who dominated on both ends.
Satou Sabally: Leading the charge
Satou Sabally remains a driving force for the Mercury. She’s averaging 19.3 points per game as she ranks among the league’s top scorers this season. Her consistent performance, including a 15-point contribution against Chicago, has been pivotal in Phoenix’s success. Sabally’s ability to score efficiently and contribute across the board makes her a key player in the Mercury’s lineup.
Sky struggles continue
The Sky had a few bright spots. Kamilla Cardoso led them with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, and Michaela Onyenwere also put up 17 off the bench. But it wasn’t enough. Angel Reese, usually a force on the glass, was held to just 2 rebounds, snapping her 39-game streak of at least 9 boards. The Sky also turned the ball over 21 times, which Phoenix turned into 32 points.
What’s next for Phoenix?

With this win, Phoenix remains perfect on the road at 4–0 and improves to 11–4 on the year, marking their best start since 2021. The Mercury currently holds the league’s longest win streak at 5 games. The chemistry is clicking, the shots are falling, and they’re showing they can win in tough environments. If they keep playing like this, the Mercury are going to be a team nobody wants to face come playoff time. With Kahleah Copper coming back in the lineup after that injury, she fit right in like a glove.

The Phoenix Mercury are set to host the New York Liberty on June 27, 2025, at PHX Arena. This matchup comes just eight days after the Mercury handed the Liberty their first home loss of the season, securing an 89–81 victory in Brooklyn.
In their previous encounter, rookie Monique Akoa Makani led the Mercury with a season-high 21 points. Alyssa Thomas contributed significantly with 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Sami Whitcomb added 16 points, including 8 in the fourth quarter.
For the Liberty, Breanna Stewart delivered a season-high 35 points. However, Sabrina Ionescu struggled, shooting 3-of-16 from the field and 1-of-10 from three-point range. Additionally, Jonquel Jones exited early in the second quarter due to a right ankle injury and did not return.
Key Players to Watch

Satou Sabally (Mercury): Averaging 20.6 points per game, Sabally continues to be a pivotal scorer for Phoenix.
-
