We hear it all the time that everyone has their own path, and you just have to stay on it, or if it’s not working, change lanes. Not too many of us at the age of 15 had any clue what we wanted to do; his age is just one of the many reasons our featured athlete this month is so special. With a family background in and around the racing, you could say it was bound to happen, but that wouldn’t credit the work he has put in. His resume grows weekly and includes being the first American to finish top 3 in Frances FEED Racing program. Coming to us from California and representing Adams Motorsports Park, always full speed, we get to know Truly Adams!
Courtney Walsh: When did you first get introduced to racing?
Truly Adams: When I was about two years old, my dad would put me on his lap while he taught karting lessons, and I couldn’t wait to drive. I had to wait two more years, so the first time I was able to drive, I was four years old, it was Christmas, and I was hooked.
CW: What is it about being behind the wheel that you love the most?
TA: It’s hard to pick just one thing, but if I had to, then it would be the battle. There can be 40+ drivers on the track at one time, and you have to keep your head and be smart in order to be successful.
CW: Who are some of the people who have helped you along the way?
TA: It takes a ton of people, partners, and sponsors to do what I do, but I wouldn’t be anywhere without my mom and dad and partners like the Benvo, the non-profit foundation that helps to support my racing. I have also been lucky enough to have sponsors like GoPro, Simpson, Piston Bones, Utah Motorsports Foundation, and RLV.
CW: How has the experience of traveling overseas to compete been?
TA: I’m 6 feet tall, so the first thing I learned was that I needed an aisle seat because those 12-hour flights are tough. The competition level is super high. The driving style is different (aggressive & smooth), so I had to learn a new driving style to be competitive. At first, I found myself in the back, which forced me to focus and fight until the last lap.
CW: What can we find you doing to relax and unwind off the track?
TA: My favorite thing to do is race in my simulator. I’m not sure how relaxing it is, but if not at a race or doing school work, then you can find me in there. My backup is Call of Duty.
CW: You have an eye for fashion. How to decide on your fits?
TA: I like fashion, but most of the time my mom buys my clothes. The coolest thing I’ve done was the Regard Magazine shoot. If I could have bought all of the clothes, I would have. The blue and red suit was fire.
CW: What does it mean to you to be a race car driver of color?
TA: I’m usually the only or one of a very few, and I’m comfortable with that. I hope that one day I inspire more drivers who look like me, just like I was inspired by Lewis Hamilton.
CW: Without giving it all away, what can we expect from Truly Adams in 2026?
TA: My goal is to be racing and winning in an F4 car overseas.
Such an impressive young man with a clear set of goals and systems in place to reach them. Jump in the back seat and follow his journey on his social media accounts:
