Dothan Alabama are you ready? Soccer fans are you ready? There is a new Minor League soccer team making its way to Dothan for the 2024-2025 season the name of the team Dothan United Dragons.
The owner of the team is Steve Donner who is an American sports executive, team owner, and manager. He is the founding Commissioner of the Professional Box Lacrosse Association and the former co-owner of the Elmira Mammoth of the Federal Prospects Hockey League. He is the former president and CEO of the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League, and the founder and CEO of the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League, the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse, and the Rochester Raging Rhinos of the United Soccer League. He has also served as chief executive of numerous other professional sports teams and ventures. Donner brings many years of experience to Alabama. I have spoken with Donner about bringing a soccer team to Alabama and why he chose Dothan.
Here is what Donner had to say:
“If you look around the country, there aren’t too many communities the size of Dothan that don’t have some type of pro or semi-pro sports,” Steve Donner, president of Dothan FC, said. “We’re excited to get the ball rolling with this, and we hope to get the entire community involved to have some fun.”
The growth of Dothan and the changes made to Rip Hewes intrigued Donner to bring a franchise to Circle City.
