Dexter: Original Sin is one week away from the season 1 finale and there are plenty of things we need addressed. Dexter is still fumbling through his kill ritual, we have no clue why the captain is targeting kids, and what’s the story with his brother Brian? Here’s some of the biggest things we want answered going as season one wraps up:
What Happens To Brian?
Good ol’ “Biney” as young Dexter would recognize him. Not only do we get his backstory here, but the nickname came up in the original series as Dexter recognized the name from his past. What we don’t know is what happens to him in between the two shows.
The hard thing to tie in is 1: either Brian Moser is there the whole time, which makes it hard to believe he wouldn’t have made contact sooner than the 15-20 years between shows. 2: Brian is incarcerated in a detention center and eventual prison, again less likely as someone in the police force would know of it and know to keep an eye on his release and connection to Dexter. 3: Brian escapes and lays low until the right time to reinsert himself into Dexter’s life.
Will We See the Slice of Life?
We got to see the famous Slice of Pie, but when does it become the Slice of Life. Does Dexter purchase the boat at a police auction? How does this famous boat come into his possession? More importantly, who is the first victim in his underwater graveyard. In the original series we see his favorite dumping spot, but we’re not there yet. Last we saw he was still looking for the perfect place since Alligator Alley was an active crime scene. The two go hand in hand so as we get the Slice of Life, so too will we see his first victim’s new home.
Will He Go Back To Keepsakes From Kills?
In the original series, Dexter keeps souvenirs from his kills, his blood slide collection. In Dexter: Original Sin we’ve only seen this in limited action with Nurse Mary and keeping her earrings. Does this come up again and will it be from Captain Spencer? If it is, surely that would be something that Harry would recognize and make him more suspicious of Dexter and make him feel the need to reign him in a bit more.
What’s In It For Captain Spencer?
Maybe I missed something in the latest episode but why did the Captain kidnap the first kid? When Dexter has him on the table he said he wanted to punish his ex wife. That makes the connection to his son’s kidnapping but not the kid before him, who was eventually hanged.
Something seems like it’s missing. While it would explain Dexter’s loss in faith in humanity, kidnapping your own child and cutting off his finger seems like an overreaction to hurt feelings. There has to be something more at stake, right? There’s a deeper motive here, or was he really just trying to frame the drug cartels in his city while simultaneously playing mind games with an ex wife?
Who’s Next Season’s Antagonist?
If Dexter: Original Sin follows the original series, it will switch up the prime target each season. Dexter consistently had kills each week from small players, but ultimately it would lead to bigger fish. There was always one season long story arc that would keep the audience guessing. We’ve seen Captain Spencer be the antagonist of season one despite Brian being the distraction killer along the way, but how will that carry over into season two. Will we really have to sit as Dexter not only fumbles in his growth, but also have to sit through how incompetent Miami Metro would be if they just keep stringing alone the Brian Moser story through multiple seasons? That wouldn’t be a good look.
Surely Dexter: Original Sin is enjoying the success of the original show. With the sequel series coming up, there’s more than likely a chance the prequel gets picked up for a second season. Will the be able to capture the magic of the original run?
