Getting points on the road is never easy so a squad that has gone through the things this team has is already behind the eight ball. The black and red continued to struggle to defend set-pieces and fell to the Columbus Crew 3-0. With Chad Ashton taking over as coach and new signing Taxi Fountas doing what he did in his debut signs of hope were all-around at the start of the match. They went away quickly as in the 28th minute the Crew got goal number 1. You can’t say United didn’t have chances to score because they did but couldn’t get the final touch right and it is shocking to see how bad they defend the set-piece controlling the possession 57% of the time more should be expected.
The hope is to clean up the piece defending and finish off some of these scoring chances when they present themselves. The loss puts us in last place in the east and also gives us our 5th loss in our last 6 matches didn’t it all seem so much more fun when we were 3-0. With the Houston Dynamo coming to town on Saturday they won’t have too much time to worry about this one and the possible points they missed.
We will have to keep an eye on the injury list as GK Bill Hamid is on the list along with Nigel Robertha who is in concussion protocol making that 6 total players on the list all of which could help get us back on track. Is it too early to say that Saturday’s match is a must-win? The hope was the squad could feed off of the 3-goal game against New England and give Coach Ashton back-to-back wins. Saturday it is back home and another chance to right the ship.
