D.C. United travels to BMO Field to face off against Toronto and look to bounce back from last week’s loss against Chicago. This series has been all D.C. with United winning the last 9 matches and the Reds are struggling and looking to stop the bleeding. Last week we saw United have a ton of scoring chances and just not be able to cash them in, which showed two major issues with the team.
Who is that lethal striker who can make teams pay inside the box? And where is the midfielder who can create chances and also control the pace? This season is just starting but these needs to be addressed asap. Waiting for Taxiarchis Fountas to come in and save the day isn’t a winning formula and could be too little too late. Grabbing extra points and being in the thick of things until the May 4 transfer and trade deadline would be huge.
The first two games against squads that do not have the talent level of Chicago was a slap in the face for D.C. and lineup changes and perhaps formation changes should be expected. Hopefully, these things are addressed on the training ground and we go to Toronto with a better vibe and come away with 3 points. After this game, we have a break for FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. I also want to give a shoutout to the supporters who braved temps in the teens to attend the match. Two teams facing questions something has got to give.
