With the Season One finale of Daredevil: Born Again in the books, the show left off with Matt wanting to form an army. This has left viewers and comic book enthusiasts guessing just who could be included in that army. Whoever it is, it should not be The Young Avengers.
I have nothing against whoever Marvel decides to put in the Young Avengers, but what I would have an issue with is tying them into this particular Daredevil storyline. While not as wholesome as the Netflix brand, this version of Daredevil is entirely different. Not just in terms of the story, but the violence it has displayed.
The Young Avengers are just that—kids playing the role of superheroes. Ms. Marvel is still just a child. While her standalone show was entertaining and her presence in The Marvels was the same, Kingpin and his Anti-Vigilante Team are something different. No mystical forces are at play here; they are out for blood and death. The same goes for Kate Bishop. She will take the torch from Hawkeye, but is she ready to take someone’s life?
We can talk Wiccan, Iron Heart, and whoever else, but none of them have seen this style of street-level crime. In each show or movie, they have had more of an apprentice role, if anything. Matt is a hothead. He’s dealing with his issues and has no time to be holding the hand of kids as they walk through the fire.
Now is not the time for Marvel to add any of these heroes to the Born Again storyline. Spider-Man is another name that has been floated around, but due to contractual obligations, that may not happen. The obvious choice would be to bring back The Defenders, as they have been labeled as official canon in the MCU.
With Marvel, we know there will be some sort of team-up in Season 2, and according to early shoots, we see Daredevil and Bullseye in the same shot as if they’re fighting side by side. That makes more sense, and they will both be out for vengeance. While Daredevil himself is not known for killing, he still has a dark and violent streak inside. Pairing him with a group of kids just doesn’t seem the right way to go.
