Danica Patrick will be the first woman to serve as host of the ESPYS…
ESPN’s big annual event that serves as a celebration of the best sports has to offer.
“I have a thing for doing things for the first time as a woman, so I’m going to be the first woman to host the ESPYS,” Danica Patrick “It is the biggest night of the year for sports. Every year I leave feeling so inspired! I am excited to be able to help celebrate, laugh and cry about the past year in sports with everyone. It’s going to be a great night and one full of more than a few surprises.”
Danica is known for breaking through gender barriers in motorsports, having been the first — and so far only — woman to win an IndyCar Series race, which she did in 2008 in Japan and the ESPYS aren’t exactly unfamiliar territory for her. She has been at every event since 2005, and was even introduced to her current boyfriend, Green Packers – and NFL MVP – quarterback Aaron Rodgers, at the show several years ago.
“We met at the ESPYS back in 2012. We remember meeting each other, it was quick…I got his email address…It wasn’t until, obviously, recently that we actually had phone numbers. We referred to each other as Chicago and Green Bay. It was very cute.”, Danica Patrick
Danica will continue her trailblazing career by hosting ESPN’s ESPYS now that she has retired from motorsports, but will be far from the only woman featured during the event.
