The Dallas Cowboys haven’t played in an NFC Championship game since 1995. Yes, I hear about this all the time. The NFL isn’t a gift opening on Christmas Day. It takes all three levels of the team to be healthy and kick it up a gear when the playoffs start. After not making the NFC Championship game after going 12-5 in three straight seasons.
Brian Schottenheimer
So the news around the league sees the Dallas Cowboys as a joke around the NFL. This is a story I am very used to, and I participate in the fun along with many others here at TEAMNBSMedia. This included hiring Schottenheimer as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. What in the world are the Joneses doing?
I’ll tell you what they’ve accomplished since they decided to name Schottenheimer as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. The entire culture is vastly different, and I love it.
Brian Schottenheimer is not his father. Marty was a good coach, but the immediate assumption that so many people held of Brian was that he would coach just like his dad. Isn’t Kyle Shanahan different from his dad? I believe the biggest difference between Marty and Brian Schottenheimer is the way Brian is ingrained with what these players deal with.
No matter which camp or other charity efforts of the Dallas Cowboys, Brian Schottenheimer or one of his assistant coaches are there supporting the efforts of every player. He took the team out paintballing and even took his three QBs out to dance to Greek music. I’m not saying anything regarding whether the Dallas Cowboys are headed to a Super Bowl, and I’m not saying they will dominate the NFC East.
After The Mini Camp
Mini camp ended yesterday, and there have been some good things, especially at the corner position. Matt Eberflus has used a zone-heavy scheme, which has been mostly a Cover Two or a Cover Four. Yet at this mini camp, he has mostly used a Cover Three scheme. This is a simple answer. The Dallas Cowboys have sucked at stopping the running game.
As well, the recently acquired Kair Elam, who simply didn’t get an opportunity to play regularly in Buffalo, has been very good and has been responsible for PBUs in every session, and was mad at himself for dropping two interceptions.
Tyler Guyton has looked much better at left tackle and has worked with former Dallas Cowboys tackle Tyron Smith. Smith has had an opportunity to teach Guyton that playing in the NFL means you play hurt, and playing hurt is far different from having an actual injury. Coach Schotteheimer has praised his improvements.
The biggest name acquired by the Dallas Cowboys is, of course, George Pickens. Pickens has been a great addition thus far and has caused zero issues. He didn’t make any deal with Markquese Bell and took the jersey number three. His work ethic has been special and he has developed a great relationship with Dak Prescott and the other number one receiver in Ceedee Lamb. If the Cowboys succeed this season with two excellent wide receivers Pickens will be in line for a huge contract next season.
What Will Happen For Dallas in 2025?
Folks, it’s only June, and it’s way too early to make any predictions. Let’s relax and enjoy the summer, and we can worry about the 2025 NFL season after training camp. This upcoming season sees the NFC East play the NFC North and the AFC West teams, with just six playoff teams out of the eight. The Dallas Cowboys have the fourth-hardest schedule in the league according to strength of schedule.
For me, the best change in this group thus far has been head coach Brian Schottenheimer. Time will tell if his hiring makes a big difference or not.
