The Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles will do their first battle of the season this Sunday. With both teams still in the hunt for the best record in the NFC East, this also has Conference aspirations on the line. Each season, these two seem to be neck and neck and while the head-to-head has been close over the last few seasons, it’s what’s done after the regular season that the Cowboys are going for. They want to be where the Eagles have been and where they are headed. They want to be the best in the NFC.
However, as Jerry Jones stated, he doesn’t want to poke the bear. For once, he’s making the right decision. This game is already huge for both teams but it’s a bit bigger for the Cowboys. Now, it’s all about focus. The Cowboys cannot afford to view this game as their Super Bowl. It’s the same as it was when they matched up against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5. Keep your eyes on the bigger picture and not bragging rights.
Heading into the game at 5-2 the Dallas Cowboys are not coming in like the Washington Commanders or the New York Jets, they have something to play for. They need this game to validate themselves among the elite teams. This season, they have run over the likes of the New England Patriots, Jets, New York Giants, and the Los Angeles Rams. The Eagles are a different breed.
Will The Dallas Cowboys Beat The Eagles
Now it’s up to the veterans in the locker room to preach the importance of this matchup but to still let the team know that the season is not over, win or lose. The Eagles will enter this game with their minds still focused on the ultimate prize. It’s one game for them. They’ve been here before. But thanks to the media and the hysterical fans, no Eagles and Cowboys game will ever be billed as just a simple regular season game, and that’s where things tend to go wrong.
Whether we talk [about it] or not, we know what’s ahead of us. Great opponent. Excited for it. Opponent we are familiar with and vice versa. I know you guys are going to build it up. That’s part of your guys’ [in the media] job. As you should in a big game like this with a big, big, big rival. Division game. Down the road this game will mean something as we get further down the line in the season. Trust me, the guys in the locker room, myself, we know what this game means.
The Dallas Cowboys are loaded on both sides of the ball. They are top 5 in Passing Defense and will need that to figure out a way to stop Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown who have been on a tear. As far as their offense goes, the time is now for Dak Prescott to put some of his doubters to bed with a stellar performance. If the Cowboys can duplicate what they did last week against the Rams, the Eagles will be 7-2 by day’s end.
But no matter what happens, the microscope is always shinning bright when these rivals play. Come Monday morning, media outlets will either pat the Cowboys on the back or throw them in the trash can. They also forget that it’s one game out of 17.
If they lose, they’re not out of the playoff hunt, the NFC East, or the best record in the Conference. It means they lost their first game of the season against the Eagles, that’s it. They will get another shot in a few weeks. if they win, they improve their record. Doesn’t mean the Philadelphia Eagles are pretenders or that the Dallas Cowboys are now Super Bowl favorites. It’s one game. Keep it simple.
