Don’t look now but it appears that real change has come to our club D.C. United, winners of three matches in a row. Now I know that when you see those wins came against Orlando, CF Montréal, and Charlotte by no means league powerhouses but it is progress damn it. Any long-suffering fan of the black and red will take it and enjoy the moment in the sun. We also have a player who is showing the league that old-school strikers are not dead just yet, which along with manager Wayne Rooneys’ change in tactics has resulted in a change for the better.
To me it felt like forever since that 3-2 opening match win versus Toronto FC, we saw 6 straight losses, and even worse 3 of the 6 we didn’t manage to get one goal. But that was then and this is now. Enter former English Premier League striker Christian Benteke a classic number 9 if ever there was one. With 5 goals in 10 matches played, D.C. United has shot up to 7th place in the east although it’s early these are the small wins you need when building a franchise back up.
It has been 3 years since D.C. United made it to the postseason but an improving attack and defense has given fans hope that they could at least be in the hunt for a spot. Tyler Miller has shown he is very capable in goal and staking up shutouts. The change in tactics from Rooney has a team that has gone from lots of short passes to longer ones. A clear sign of making things work Benteke and the results have been more goals and scoring chances as well. The fans have noticed with Audi Field being sold out and the supporters heard early and often. This is the type of atmosphere we are known for from years gone by.
D.C. United Is On A Roll
Up next is the 6-1-3 FC Cincinnati club that is playing at a very high level and undefeated at home. A nice test for the club and another opportunity to see where they stand with the big boy of MLS. D.C. United continues to make roster moves as well in an effort to improve the squad Brazilian Ruan a right back, Cristian Dájome brought in from the Vancouver team, and Striker Erik Hurtado. Getting these players healthy and paperwork in order will provide more options for the manager plus depth.

Have you tried out the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV? I have and since matchday week 1 I have seen steady improvements with the games and the whip-around show MLS 360. The fact you can pick your hometown commentators along with the crisp 4K video is a win-win and I think the league is long overdue with this. I also like that when fans make suggestions to improve it some of them are being done week to week. This is a great way for NEW fans of MLS to be introduced to the clubs and players.
The short videos they have that talk about the different supporter groups are well put together. I am far from an Apple spoke person, but I do like what they are doing and enjoying it weekly, they are tossing in some free games weekly which is worth checking out. What are your thoughts on it?
