Did you hear? We are about to enter a soccer lovers dream over the next few years and it starts with the Copa América taking place in our backyard. This tournament showcases the best teams in North and South America—the chance to see stars like Lionel Messi, Vini Jr, and more. Copa America, established in 1916, is an international soccer tournament that will take place in Florida, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, New Jersey, California, Arizona, Nevada, Missouri, and Kansas.
The first time it took place outside of South America was 2016 when it was in the United States. It will have 16 nations and run June 20th-July 14th and you should expect some great atmosphere as well as watch parties.
You can find games on Fox Sports, FS1 or FS2, and Fubo. Some storylines I will have an eye on are the following:
Can Argentina grab its 16th trophy and go back to 2-back?
With some shade being thrown by OG’s can this Brazil team bring back the magic? Do YOU know the last time they won a major tournament? I will wait…
Will the home crowd spark a special run from the USMNT?
With the 2026 World Cup right around the corner, all eyes are on manager Greg Berhalter and this is a young USA team with talent all over. Can he find the right lineups and put on a show fans are starving for? The strength is in the midfield with Tyler Adams, Yunus Msah, Gio Reyna, Weston McKennie, and Christian Pulisic. Getting out of the group isn’t good enough.
We NEED a knockout round WIN and with half the fan base calling for Greg’s job he needs it as well. They should win the group and prove they are for real and not just happy to be there.
With nations in transition from one era to another, it will be interesting to see how squads like Mexico and Uruguay flip talent and give new faces a shot. That will be a common theme throughout the tournament with new names and faces taking center stage, as the old guard moves on.
If you are new to the world of futbol/soccer this is a good intro for you. It won’t take long to feel the passion of the fans and players. Plus you can talk about the USMNT and sound like a vet and learn about the beautiful game ahead of the World Cup. This is the jumpoff to an amazing few years of soccer on American soil if ever there was a time to jump on the bandwagon it is NOW. One of the most exciting parts of this tournament is the influx of young talent and seeing who will step up and who isn’t quite ready for the spotlight.
