The critics of the Colorado Buffaloes Football team are quiet as hell now. In the early stages of the season and even before, they were out in full force. Everyone hated Deion Sanders and his program, but now, praise is being thrown their way, or people are just being quiet. Either way, they have to eat crow.
No, Colorado is not in the same league as Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, and others atop the AP Polls, but that’s not to say they haven’t earned the right to be mentioned as a top college program.
Following their victory over Cincinnati, Colorado made its way back inside the Top 25. Yes, I said back because you have to remember they made it last year, too, before their collapse. So, let’s get this straight. A Sanders-coached team has made the Top 25 in just two years there, and in his second season, they’re primed for a Bowl Game. And yet, the hate is still real.
Sitting at 6-2 on the season, the Buffaloes have a chance to run the table and finish 10-2. Not what the critics wanted, right? They wanted this program to fail because they wanted the coach to fail. Then you have to wonder what the hell did Sanders to do anyone?
Is it because he speaks his mind? Well, hell, what coach doesn’t? Nick Saban has been known to fly off the handle as well but yet, he’s well respected. Deion is just a season and a half into his term as a Power 5 coach. But maybe the hate is because he has players that are worth the price of admission and many may feel they could be doing better at another school.
How much better would they be? His son, Shedeur Sanders is by far one of the best QBs in college. His stats are up there with the so-called bigger names. And when the season is done, many scouts believe that Sanders will be the first QB chosen in the 2025 NFL Draft.
On the other side of that is Travis Hunter. A player who grew in the foundation that Sanders built in college and the NFL. As a dual threat at CB and WR, many have Hunter going as the No. 1 pick. So that’s possibly 2 players at Colorado up for a top pick in the Draft and we can’t forget about the Heisman.
Is that why they hate Sanders and Colorado Football? Sanders took his players from Jackson State and turned them into household names and the sports world is losing their damn minds.
Colorado was a school many had forgotten about. Gone are the glory days of the 90s. The new regime is being led by a coach and players who supposedly weren’t good enough for the Power 5 and here they are atop the Draft Boards and Heisman list. Yup, that will garner some hate.
Maybe they’re hated on because of the chip on their shoulders they play with. Maybe it’s their bravado. Yes, the same bravado that Deion himself played with and one that everyone loved as he morphed into Primetime. Now that his players adopted that, the media can’t stand it.
Maybe they can stand that much like Deion, his players are backing up their boldness on the field and off. Let’s be honest here, what power school has two players being considered as top 5 picks? What Sanders has done for Colorado Football can no longer be ignored.
Colorado Football has more eyes on them possibly than any other team in College Football. everyone is watching. Most are watching the game while others are watching the culture shift that’s happening in Boulder. At Alabama, they are expected to win and fight for a national championship. In Colorado, they are just getting their feet wet.
Winning now means more for this program than anything. One of the main reasons why people are rooting against them is because they are afraid of the future. If they keep this up, those players with Alabama, Michigan, and Georgia on their wishlist, could very well add Colorado to that list, and that’s not what the masses want.
He has taken a school from the depths of the abyss and has them ranked in the Top 25 for the second straight year and are now Bowl eligible. He has two players who will be a top 5 pick and has a record of 6-2 so far. And yet, those same critics who were calling them frauds and not being worthy are now silent.
