Nuts and Bolts Sports is proud to announce its inaugural College Football Players Of The Week. We shall be highlighting outstanding performers from all levels of college football. With no further ado, here are the College Football Players Of The Week.
Division III Offense-Central College quarterback Blaine Hawkins, he passed for 503 yards and six touchdowns. He broke his own school record of 424 yards, which he set at Simpson College September 25th, reaching it by halftime with 428. He completed 32 of 43 passes for 503 yards, no interceptions, ending the game 2 yards short of the American Rivers Conference single-game record.He has been named to All Region honors in the past and was also a Division III honorable mention All-America in previous seasons.
The record-setting quarterback’s interception-free streak now stands at 207 straight attempts, his school mark of 212 is now in sight. He was previously flawless over a long streak of nine straight games from Oct. 7, 2017 to Sept. 22, 2018. Hawkins also ran for a 1-yard score. He has already thrown for 19 touchdown passes over the last three games and has a tally of 27 for the year.
Division III Defense-Michael Nobile of Delaware Valley had a whale of game: 3 solo tackles, 4 assists, 1 solo sack and assisted on 5 others for a grand total of 3 and 1/2 sacks. He also had a QB Hurry on the day.
NAIA Offense-The Morningside University running back broke a school record on Saturday by scoring six rushing touchdowns. Anthony Sims had a career day, his record breaking day included, accounting for 203 yards needing only 12 touches, as he posted a 16.9 average, with a long run of 54 yards.
NAIA Defense- Dylan Martinez LB, College of Idaho was practically omnipresent with 6 solo tackles, 5 assists. He also had 1 and 1/2 tackles for loss including a solo sack.
Division II Offense-Toriano Clinton, RB, U of Indianapolis Greyhounds went all the way off! He logged 287 yards in just 20 carries 77-yard jaunt that was one of his 4 touchdowns in the game, he also caught a pass for 6 yards. The Calumet Illinois native attended St. Laurence, a Catholic high school, where a friend of mine has a son on the team. I have seen him in person, he has great acceleration and agility.
Division II Defense-Deshawn McCarthy is a legitimate NFL prospect at 6’3 1/2″ 262 and a projected 4.76 40 he is ideal for the ‘Wide 9’ DE. He accounted for 4 solo stops, helping on 3 more versus Millersville with an eye-opening 3 1/2 sacks, he’s a beast!
FCS Defense-Isaiah Land, the outside linebacker now holds the FA&MU single-game sack record with five sacks, 4 1/2 TFL, and 2 QB Hurries. He was unblock-able! He has an NFL frame and he can bend.
FCS Offense-QB Cole Kelley SELU, the 6’6 3/8″ 257 pound former Razorback signal caller has drawn comparisons to both Josh Allen and Ben Roethlisberger, he used that huge arm to great effect hitting on 29 of 38 passes for 406 yards, a long of 76 yards, 5 passing TDs, 1 interception and added 2 scores on the ground on 14 carries and 55 yards.
FBS Offense WKU QB Bailey Zappe went 38 of 60 for 523 yards 5 touchdowns, 1 interception and a long of 55. He also ran 6 times for 2 yards, with a long of 5 yards. The Houston Baptist transfer has been at, or close to the top of nearly all of the quarterback metrics in the FBS since he moved up in classification.
FBS Defense LB Sione Tupou, Texas State, he was a true ‘stat-sheet-stuffer’ with 14 tackles [5 solo, 9 assists] and made big plays for the Bobcats in the extra periods. Tupou had a fumble recovery in the second overtime after a missed field goal attempt for the Bobcats and also knocked down a pass in the third overtime period to help preserve the win.
