It’s no secret that Roquan Smith wants out of Chicago after months of going back and forth with the Chicago Bears organization for a new contract deal with the team. The All-Pro LB went to social media yesterday to let out his frustrations with the team in hopes that would spark a new contract deal. Well, after practice at training camp, the Bears are done playing nice with the LB.
Wednesday afternoon, the Chicago Bears officially moved Smith off the PUP list. Shortly after being removed from the list, Smith then went ahead and deleted all of his social media accounts, which included Twitter and Instagram.
Roquan Smith doesn’t have any team behind him helping him gain a new contact deal of any sort. If you remember back during his rookie years, the LB also did something similar in hopes to get a contract deal. In 2018, Smith didn’t attend training camp after he got drafted. Smith at the time was the only player from the draft that was unsigned entering week one of August 2018. That hold out lasted until the week of the Bears first preseason game during that time.
I believe its safe to say the same trick isn’t going to workout this time around at Halas Hall. The LB has 100+ tackles 2.0 sacks and 1 INT in every season since his rookie year. Smith also has 43 tackles for losses. Smith is also a 2 x all pro bowler in the NFL. With his stats, he is the only LB in the NFL with these type of numbers. Whether Smith returns to the Bears or gets traded elsewhere, it’s safe to say it will be another season of dominant numbers in the NFL.
Since Smith reported the trade, a few teams are very interested in bringing him in to their organization. The New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins and the Dallas Cowboys.
The next couple of days should be interesting as we see how this fiasco plays out with the Bears and Smith. All in all, I wish him nothing but the best in his career.
