From 2009-2018, Matt Nagy learned from one of the best offensive minds in the game, Andy Reid. After spending 2016-17, as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, Nagy was the named the Chicago Bears head coach. In his first season running the team, Nagy and the Bears compiled a record of 12-4. The Bears won the division and made the playoffs before losing the Philadelphia Eagles,16-15. Last season, the Bears took a big step back, the team finished 8-8. There are a ton of questions surrounding this team and this could be a make a break year for their young head coach. The Bears schedule below is brutal. Other than Jacksonville, who will be rebuilding, is there an easy game next season? The Carolina Panthers will be improved from last season and every other team will be battling for a playoff spot.
Bears on offense:
This is an offense that needs playmakers. Gone are the days of Brandon Marshall, Matt Forte and Jordan Howard. The Bears acquired Tight End Jimmy Graham in free agency, and they drafted another TE, Cole Kemet. The rookie should be a very productive offensive player over the middle and in the Red Zone. He is 6’6, 260lbs and could be a nightmare matchup for linebackers or defensive backs. Allen Robinson proved he can be a No. 1 wide receiver. He had 98 receptions, 1,147 receiving yards and 7 touchdown receptions. David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen averaged 3.7 yards and 3.3 yards per carry. Mitchell Trubisky only averaged 221.1 passing yards per game last season. He had 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Bears on Defense:
Khalil Mack battled through injuries all season long. He had a down year only producing 47 tackles and 8.5 sacks. Roaquan Smith led the team with 101 tackles. Robert Quinn is one of the best pure edge rushers in the league. Quinn, had 11.5 sacks for the Dallas Cowboys last season, signed a five-year, $70 million deal this offseason. The Bears should have one of the best linebacker groups in the NFL. Eddie Goldman has got to be more productive at the Nose tackle position. He only had 29 tackles last season.
Prediction:
This team is at a cross-roads. Trubisky has shown flashes of being a franchise quarterback but he is just not consistent enough. Their running game has proven to be nonexistent and who will be their No.2 option in the passing game? Does Nick Foles take over halfway through the season? Losing defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio last season, impacted this team. Chuck Pagano’s defense went from elite, to a top 10 group. Their schedule is brutal, and they just don’t have the firepower on offense.
Chicago finishes the season with a 6-10 record.
