They say basketball never stops, well add soccer to that saying. Doesn’t it feel like just yesterday Chelsea was enjoying a glorious comeback to the top of the Premier league. Fast forward to August and here we are facing a whole new and exciting season which kicks off this Friday. Which transfers will be good and who will rob a club blind while stinking it up on the pitch? Those are just some of the things that fans will have to look forward to, I for one will focus on my team and defending champs Chelsea. Can they repeat? Why or why not? And how do they do it? Let’s dive in!
The biggest news is bye bye Diego Costa who in my opinion was too temperamental to rely on but when he was on he was a great goal scorer. In comes a new striker Alvaro Morata who hasn’t been cleared yet but it’s only a matter of time. The rest of the starting lineup remains the same I would argue that with Pedro and Eden Hazard on the outside we have one of the top combos of wing players in the league. The bench lost depth with John Terry and Kurt Zouma leaving. So who becomes the super sub? Heavy is the head that wears the crown and with the tournament’s outside of the season coming Conte will have to balance the rotation and keep the players fresh as he can. A repeat will not be easy teams like Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool have improved and have high hopes for success. No team has repeated since 2008 Man U squad.
The big knock on the club is its lack of big name transfers so far, also with Hazard missing the first few weeks a slow start is not out of the question for the Blues. The biggest question I have is can Alvaro Morata finally live up to the hype he had as a hot up and coming player a few years back. The rest of the league won’t be caught off guard again by the Blues and they lack serious experience with only 16 players on the roster that have played a Premier League game. With 3 weeks left in the transfer window still time to add depth and experience to the team. The way they are presently constructed, Chelsea fans have all the reason to be very nervous.
The new season is here and who will be the shocker team, that no one is talking about but surprises us all? Which one of the iconic clubs makes a return to glory? These clubs don’t sit at the bottom for long and the fans passion is unreal. If you haven’t checked out a game I strongly suggest you do so. Won’t take long to be hooked and hop on for the ride.
