New primetime shows come and go. But there are those that have these lasting powers that seem to weather the storm. Remember when The Blacklist first aired 10 years ago? Who would have thought it would have stayed this long? The same can be said for Grey’s Anatomy and its 20-year run. Well, this year, ABC offered up a new crime/romantic drama titled The Company You Keep. The show has promise but will it make it to Season 2?
In all honesty, I watch every week. The storylines are not the best, but something about the show keeps me drawn in. Maybe it’s because I’m a huge fan of Primetime drama’s with shows like Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and The Blacklist. But with The Company You Keep, it was the mystery that drew me in. Well, that mystery is now gone with Charlie coming clean to Emma that he and his family are criminals.
That was pretty much the draw of the show and viewers had to know at some point, the secret would be revealed. It makes no sense to have these two pawning over each other for the entire run of the show knowing they’re keeping secrets from one another in the middle of a tense relationship.
Will There Be A Season 2 Of The Company You Keep
But where do they go now? She’s still a CIA agent and he’s still a criminal. What made The Blacklist so appealing was viewers trying to solve the mystery of who Raymond Reddington is and will Elizabeth Keen ever figure out the truth. The Company You Keep no longer has that “coming out of the dark” moment.
It’s now up to the writers to do their best to extend that storyline. While Emma has stated she wants nothing to do with Charlie, we all know that not to be true. Something will draw them back together but will it be done at the expense of the show?
A way the show can change gears is by having Charlie and his family become CIs for the CIA. That way, the two can continue their romance but will it bring the same excitement the first few episodes did when they were hiding their real identities from one another? The Company You Keep did have great promise but that major mystery of it all is gone and may hurt their chances for a second season.
