The good news is that Mr. and Mrs. Smith is getting a second season at Amazon. However, there is a plot twist. According to reports, stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are not slated to return for the new season. While fans are outraged, all is not lost for a promising show moving forward.
As we witnessed in the first season, they are not the only Mr. and Mrs. Smith in the universe. At the end of Season 1, there was a shootout in which fans were left in the dark regarding who survived. That’s where the public outrage is coming from.
The John and Jane that fans were introduced to are different than the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie tandem. In a sense, that’s what made them a bit more appealing. Pitt and Joelie didn’t have time to develop any real chemistry in their scenes together, while the Glover and Erskine chemistry was built through multiple episodes even when they were trying to kill each other, you could sense it was in the heat of the moment.
Will There Be A Season 3 Of Mr. and Mrs. Smith
This now brings us to a way that Amazon can still save face with the Mr. and Mrs. Smith fanbase and leave the door open for Glover and Erskine to return.
At the beginning of Season 2, viewers should be left in the dark regarding what happened to either of the Smith’s from Season 1. In the first scene of Season 1, we were introduced to a couple who turned out to be another version of John and Jane. Viewers don’t need that this go-round, instead, the writers can just focus on the new couple and give them a storyline. However, there will come a time when some mention of John and Jane must be discussed.
And the way to do that is at the end. With Glover stating he wants to go on a World Tour as “Childish Gambino” this year and into 2025, that means he doesn’t have time to shoot a full season. But he is returning as a producer of Mr. and Mrs. Smith so that leaves the door open for a few scenes at the end of Season 2.
The goal of the writers is to leave fans in suspense. That’s why no mention of what transpired at the end of Season 1 is so vital for the success of Season 2. What can happen is that the Season 1 version of John and Jane return to help the Season 2 version, thus opening the door as to what happened to them at the end of Season 1 for Season 3. Viewers can get all the answers they’re looking for then.
