The NBA Playoffs have arrived and like many of us figured, the Brooklyn Nets are expected to be one of the last teams standing. They will head into the Playoffs seeded 2nd in the Eastern Conference but still hold that aura of a No. 1 seed.
With Kevin Durant, Janes Harden, and Kyrie Irving spearheading their monster trio, who will dare count the Nets out? Seems simple but some believe they don’t play enough defense to bring the title back to Brooklyn. That may be true, but does it matter?
The saying is that defense wins championships. In a sense that’s true but let’s be honest here. That saying is mainly used for teams lacking the offensive firepower the Nets have.
This season, the motto following the Nets was that they could outscore anyone. Well, if you can outscore any team, does it matter if DeAndre Jordan can average 20 blocks per game or if Harden can keep his opponent in front of him?
Durant can drop 40 any given night. The same goes for Irving and Harden. Then you add in the sharp shooing of Joe Harris and with the improved play of the bench, who really cares who the Nets can and can’t stop?
This is not the offense head coach Steve Nash had with the Phoenix Suns when he was at his MVP level. This is a different team. The only thing that will hurt the Nets’ chances are injuries. Chemistry is not an issue here. Harden has won scoring titles and a MVP and has performed at a high-level in the Playoffs before. Irving has two rings under his belt and the same goes for Durant.
Defense is important to teams but for these Nets, it all about the offense. Defense wins championships is the motto every team facing the Nets must hold on to. Does it matter if the final score is 150 to 149? The objective is to always score more points than your opponent.
