In 2021, the Miami Dolphins compiled a record of, 9-8. It was the first time since the 2003 season that the Dolphins had back-to-back winning records. That was not good enough for the Miami brass. They fired, defensive-minded coach Brian Flores and brought in offensive-minded coach Mike McDaniel.
This bodes well for a Dolphins team that has the talent to take this offense to the next level.
Breaking Down the Offensive for Miami:
There are times when Tua Tagovailoa looks great, there are times when he looks like a deer in headlights. For his career, he is 13-8 as a starter completes 66% of his passes, and has 27 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. These numbers are pedestrian, but McDaniel should put Tua in the best position possible to help this team win. When he has protection, Tua can be very accurate.
The offensive line was one of the worst in the NFL last season. The Dolphins went out and signed free agent Connor Williams. Most publications have Miami ranked 20th and below on their offensive line. If this unit can stay healthy and protect its quarterback, they could be very productive.
The running back position is probably the deepest in the NFL. This is bad news for fantasy football owners who are trying to figure out what Dolphins running back to start. But this is great news for the coaching staff. All these players have been starters in the NFL.
- Chase Edmonds
- Raheem Mostert
- Sony Michel
- Miles Gaskin.
With four healthy runners, this team can wear out defenses in the 4th quarter.
Jaylen Waddle had 104 catches last season, setting the rookie record that was held by Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin. He is now joined by the fastest man in the NFL, Tyreek Hill. The former Kansas City WR had 110 catches and over 1,200 receiving yards in 2021. TE Mike Gesicki had 73 catches last season and is becoming a very valuable asset and safety blanked for the Dolphins quarterbacks.
I expect Daniels to use Hill and Waddle in the run game, quick screens and reverses. The goal of this offense is to minimize deep dropbacks by Tua and take the pressure off the offensive line. This team should be in the top 10 in scoring and offense.
I have the Dolphins winning 11 games and making the post-season
