By Monte Perez:
The Boston Celtics will travel to Miami on Tuesday night to take on the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Celtics defeated the Milwaukee Bucks in 7 hard-fought games while the Heat closed out the overrated Philadelphia 76ers in 6 games.
Boston:
We have seen this Celtics team grow up right before our eyes. Ime Udoka has brought a toughness, a confidence and feistiness that this team never had under Brad Stevens. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are averaging 50 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists per game in the playoffs. They are the best duo remaining in the NBA right now. Marcus Smart is leading the team in assists. The Celtics do not have a true starting point guard, but they do it by committee. Al Horford is playing like he is 25 years old, not 35. Boston’s bench has contributed better than expected. Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, and Daniel Theis have all provided a lift. Grant Williams was the most valuable player in Game 7 against the Bucks and if Robert Williams can get healthy, this team can win it all.
Miami:
Jimmy Butler has been a one man wrecking crew for Miami. He leads the team in points (28.7), assists (5.4), and steals (2.1). Bam Adebayo is averaging 14 points and 7 assists per contest. Tyler Herro has been non-existent in the post-season. The 6th man of the year is only averaging 13 points per game. Veterans P.J. Tucker and Kyle Lowry are only averaging 14 points combined.
Prediction:
This is a series that will remind us of playoff games back in the 1980s. Both teams are going to try to impose their will on the defensive end. I expect this to be a very physical series. Boston has too much depth to lose to Miami. Butler is the only reliable scorer for the Heat and that will be their downfall. Celtics are too versatile and skilled.
Boston wins in 6 games
Jayson Tatum will win the 1st ever Larry Bird Award as the MVP of the Eastern Conference Finals.
