In 2014 when Jimmy Garoppolo was drafted, Bill Belichick came out and said “We all know Tom’s age and contract situation.” That would light a fire under Tom’s ass and he shut Bill up by winning the Super Bowl and two more for the Patriots. When Jimmy was traded in 2017 Belichick wanted to make sure Garoppolo went to a team that he would succeed with. Not the Browns, or the Lions but the 49ERS. Belichick loved Garoppolo and wanted him to be the successor to Tom Brady. However, Brady winning the Super Bowl got in the way of that and Kraft forced Belichick to trade Jimmy.
Bill Belichick Changes Tune Depending On Who Plays Ball With Him
After the 2019 season Brady leaves for the Buccaneers and the Patriots don’t have a quarterback. COVID strikes and the offseason program is disrupted. Jarrett Stidham is believed to be the starting quarterback for the Patriots going forward. They didn’t add a veteran until the very last minute like the last item on the shelf at a store. The Patriots signed Cam Newton in July with training camp beginning at the end of the month. Throughout that whole 7-9 season questions were asked if Cam was the starting quarterback and here was Belichick’s answer.
Then Kraft drafts Mac Jones in the 2021 NFL Draft and Belichick does nothing but praise him through his rookie season and the start of the 2022 offseason. This is what Belichick said during last offseason Patricia and Judge were in charge of the offense.
“[Jones has] made tremendous strides,” Belichick said, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “He did a great job last year, but he’s starting from a much, much higher point this year from where he started last year. His offseason work has been significant, and I think everyone recognizes how well he prepares and how much further along he was than a year ago.”
Bill Belichick Loves To Hold Grudges
Then after Mac Doesn’t like Patricia and Judge Bill Belichick holds it against him because the owner got a real offensive coordinator? That is wrong on Belichick’s part. The Patriots’ social media is telling you every day Mac Jones is the starting quarterback. Mac has been the starter during practices and does look better than Zappe. But because Bill Belichick can’t take ownership of last season, he says this.
Give them a chance to compete. Didn’t say that in 2020 when Cam came here basically said from the jump Cam is the starter. Mac didn’t like Bill Belichick’s offensive coordinators last year so now there has to be a quarterback competition. Just take ownership it’s okay to admit you were wrong and should’ve gotten O’Brien after McDaniels left. Nope, he holds it against him, and it will probably light a fire under Mac’s ass that he’s better than he was last year.
