I’m convinced and many are also that the Mac Jones draft selection in 2021 was a Robert Kraft pick. Bill Belichick would’ve chosen defense to help his kids or some special teams player. The year prior going 7-9 with Cam Newton while Brady won the Super Bowl put a bad taste in Kraft’s mouth so he made sure they drafted a quarterback in 2021. Belichick though would’ve rather taken someone in a later round rather than draft one as high as they did.
Coming out of Alabama Mac Jones needed everything to be perfect around him. Elite wide receivers, tight ends, and an offensive line. He’s gotten none of those things since being drafted by the Patriots. Nobody is going to be Brady and hide what Belichick didn’t do on offense and lift the players he has around him. Quarterbacks today need a legit offensive line and legit weapons around them. Not ones from the clearance rack at Marshalls or TJ Maxx. That is what Belichick has done these last two seasons he has sabotaged the offense and destroyed Mac’s development while thinking his system will work because it did with Brady.
Belichick to this day thinks his system works only it’s outdated and young coaches around the league are passing him. We all know what Belichick did in 2022 putting his friends to coach offense only for that to backfire. Bill O’Brien comes here to fix the offense only one problem: nobody on the offensive side is remotely good enough to run it. So who’s to blame on that one?
Bill Belichick Cares More About His Ego Rather Than Don Shula’s Wins Record

Belichick’s ego is so big that with Mac Jones failing with Bill O’Brien he can go to Robert Kraft at the end of the season and say “Well Robert he’s your quarterback we got him Bill O’Brien and he still can’t play. Looks like Patricia wasn’t so bad after all last year.” What would Belichick do I think on purpose to make the offense worse? He goes fine we’ll get Bill O’Brien but I’m not going to do anything to help Mac out on offense.
He doesn’t sign Jakobi Meyers, Mac’s go-to receiver and the most reliable. Instead, he downgrades for washed-up JuJu Smith-Schuster. The players he adds to the offensive line Calvin Anderson and Riley Reiff are useless and provide no protection. Trent Brown is checked out but they gave him a bonus. Cole Strange a first-round pick is useless as well and never on the field. Belichick gets Mike Gesicki from the Dolphins who has been quiet early on. Kendrick Bourne, and DeVante Parker, are a bunch of number three receivers. He then downgrades at running back getting rid of Damien Harris and signing washed-up Ezekiel Elliott.
From The Athletic’s Jeff Howe on Wednesday:
Belichick during the draft goes defense the majority of the time and special teams. The only offensive players he picked were in the sixth and seventh rounds. Boutte can’t get both feet in bounds, and Demario Douglas gets towered by defenders. Why not invest in the offense Bill? The answer is that it would make Belichick look bad.

Investing into the offense and getting talent around Mac Jones is an admission that Belichick’s system doesn’t work. He wouldn’t want that. By still doing it his way he can turn around and blame the quarterback instead of himself. Belichick is all about Belichick, his friends, and his kids.
Mac Jones isn’t the quarterback for Belichick he won’t succeed with him. Put him on the Dolphins, 49ers, or any team with a younger coach and he would be better. There is talent around the quarterback on those teams which Mac doesn’t and will never have on the Patriots as long as Belichick is the coach.
