Bill Belichick is losing power year by year of doing what he wants to do. It started after Brady went to Tampa in 2019 and Belichick waited until the last quarterback was left Cam Newton to bring in for the 2020 season. They go 7-9 Brady wins the Super Bowl. Reports came during that offseason that there was going to be a more collaborative approach at the NFL Draft. That year Mac Jones slipped to pick 15 and Robert Kraft made sure Bill took Mac Jones. If it was up to Bill, they would’ve taken some no-name lineman.
Bill Belichick Is Done Freelancing
Mac has a good rookie season with Josh McDaniels until McDaniels leaves for Vegas and takes half the offensive coaches. Because Matt Patricia and Joe Judge were getting paid by other teams after getting fired Bill thought it was a great idea to have those two morons coach the offense. Robert Kraft had enough of the clown show and demanded Bill Belichick get a real offensive coordinator as soon as possible. Do not wait until April or pick the last one out there. Robert Kraft released two statements one to season ticket holders and one to the fans stating they were interviewing for OC last week.
They hired Bill O’Brien as the offensive coordinator thanks to Kraft who really had no choice but to put his foot down. Now reports say Patricia may be out of New England because his contract with the Lions ended which means the Patriots would have to pay him. What a disgrace the 2022 NFL season was and the blame 100% falls on Belichick what a terrible look.
Bill O’Brien Is Back As Offensive Coordinator
I don’t care what Bill O’Brien did or didn’t do in Alabama. Mac Jones knows O’Brien and he will be better than he was in 2022. O’Brien knows the Patriots’ offense and they can bring in positional coaches that can coach the Kyle Shannahan offense too. Get a real offensive line coach there is a report that Adrian Klemm from Oregon will be in New England for a second interview. Maybe get a coach for the quarterback and wide receivers. Anything is better than what they had in 2022 so enough with O’Brien is this or that Mac won’t benefit from it. Mac wants to be coached hard and O’Brien can and will do that. He will also get the most out of the receivers and tight ends.
The Krafts are results-oriented and those results didn’t fly in 2022. Bill has no choice but to do what the Krafts want unless he wants to start somewhere else. I doubt he wants to do that being 71 and close to the Don Shula record. His family, home, and vacation homes are all close. He doesn’t want to start someplace new.
Mac Jones is thrilled that O’Brien is the OC. I’m sure all of the younger players are too. They all could see their penitential but just weren’t put in the best position to succeed in 2022. They still have work to do on the offensive coaching staff and in free agency but it’s a start in the right direction thanks to Kraft.
