Bill Belichick who doesn’t have a head coaching job because he failed a first-round quarterback, has lots to say about the now 1-6 New England Patriots. Patriot fans don’t understand why the Patriots are where they are right now, they lost players to injury and made bad decisions on defense. They don’t have Barmore or Jabrill Peppers, and it’s showing defensively. For Belichick who always preached about ignoring the noise is being part of the noise because he got fired in January.
You know, defensively, the Patriots led the league last year in rushing defense. Yards per carry, No. 1 in the league. And this year, they’re way down in the 20s. It’s the same guys,” Belichick said. “They re-signed (Anfernee) Jennings. They re-signed (Jahlani) Tavai. Obviously, (Kyle) Dugger. Marcus Jones and (Christian) Gonzalez have been healthy all year, which they were both on IR at this point last year. You’ve got (Deatrich) Wise, you’ve got (Davon) Godchaux, you’ve got Keion White, you’ve got (Marte) Mapu. … It’s a lot of the same players, and in some cases I would say more.
“I’m kind of hurt for those guys. To call them soft, they’re not soft. They were the best team in the league last year against the run. Those guys went out there and did it even though we couldn’t score many points offensively. I feel bad for the defensive players on that one because that’s a tough group. … Those guys are all tough players, they’ll strap it up and go.”
That was in response to Jerod Mayo’s comments after the game calling the team soft which they are right now.
Look, disappointing game,” Mayo said, via the team’s official transcript. “We came out, started fast. What I would say is, look, we’re a soft football team across the board. You talk about what makes a tough football team. That is being able to run the ball, that is being able to stop the run, being able to cover kicks. We did none of those today. They controlled the ball for most of the day. Their run game averaged over four-and-a-half yards a carry. Our run game, not sure what the average was, but it wasn’t good. Look, back to the drawing board. I mean, we can’t sit here and pout. We just got to put a game together.”
If Belichick were here, he’d be calling them soft, too. But now that he isn’t he wants to be phony and stick up for his players? Are you serious? Jack Jones walked into Logan Airport last year with guns. You didn’t stick up for him. You know the Patriots are hurting defensively and jealous because Drake Maye looks good.
If Belichick was here when the Jabrill Peppers thing went down he wouldn’t be feeling for the defense. What a fraudulent statement to make. I’m sure his buddies Michael Lombardi and Matt Patricia will talk about Mayo, too. Belichick had three years to develop a new Era and he failed period. Mayo now gets three years to build it his way. Now, so far, things are too loose, but hopefully, they can tighten it up.
If Drake Maye doesn’t get the support he needs around him Mayo and Wolf will be gone too. Just like Belichick people don’t get it. They look at the Super Bowls with Tom Brady and that’s it. Look what he did after Brady left people it’s not that hard.
