The last place Bill Belichick would land would’ve been North Carolina to coach football. Nobody thought the greatest defensive football coach of all time with all those Super Bowls wouldn’t even get a sniff at an NFL head coaching job ever again. Instead, he has to downgrade to the college level so he can bring his kid Steve Belichick and buddies like Matt Patricia and possibly Josh McDaniels and even Joe Judge. The one thing that Belichick wanted was total power and control which no NFL team would give him. So he said fine I’ll go to a place that will give me what I want. That place was North Carolina.
Now, the media and the people around the Country especially in the northeast aren’t really going to pay attention too much to North Carolina football. They don’t make National Championship games and make some Bowl games that nobody watches. Belichick around the North Carolina media will be probably easygoing for the most part as the interest level isn’t there.
Belichick Brings His Buddies
When Brady went to Tampa that was special because he took the Buccaneers to the Super Bowl and won. If Belichick went to another NFL team and did the same that would be so cool. But his ego and his rings get in the way and wants the power and control. The recent drafts weren’t good from 2019-2023. He couldn’t draft offense and sabotaged a first-round quarterback. Now, he’s going to be irrelevant at a college program that plays in a Bowl game probably nobody watches.
Michael Lombardi and Gang Join Belichick
Will Belichick have success at North Carolina? Who knows but I do know the pressure and the Don Shula record won’t phase him. He is under zero pressure at the college level. Good thing Drake Maye got drafted last year after what Belichick said about him at the draft.
That’s what Belichick said after he was drafted by New England. Since then, he has rarely mentioned Maye and mostly critiques the defense. It’s clear that the defense at North Carolina will be strong since they have the best defensive coach in NFL history.
Belichick wasn’t going to accept a job in Jacksonville, Chicago, or anywhere else unless he could also be the general manager. Now, he will be the one visiting high school recruits’ homes to persuade them to play for North Carolina next year. Additionally, players are now getting paid in college.
In breaking news tonight, Michael Lombardi, one of Belichick’s closest friends (right up there with Matt Patricia), is joining the staff. It’s fine for someone to be the GM if they’re one of Belichick’s friends. Seriously?! You can’t make this stuff up. Belichick only hires friends and familiar faces for his staff, and then people wonder why the Patriots’ defense is a mess this season.
No NFL team would hire Michael Lombardi as a general manager, let alone Belichick. It’s laughable that he has to go to college to get his way. Lombardi has been one of the biggest critics of the Patriots since Belichick fired him, yet he has said nothing about the 2022 NFL season. Now, he will join Belichick’s staff along with Patricia, Steve Belichick, Joe Judge, and Josh McDaniels. Good luck—people are going to enjoy the laughs.
