Beloit College (1-0) men’s basketball team opened up the 2024-2025 season with an impressive, 70-69 win over Millikin University at Flood Arena.
The Buccaneers won the game by the defense making stops when it needed to, knocked down 11 three-pointers, and made free-throws late in the game, when Big Blue missed theirs.
With 3 seconds remaining in the game and Beloit College up 68-66, Buccaneers Anthony Carter went to the free-throw line and knocked down the first free-throw.
Millikin then called a timeout trying to ice Carter making a substitution. Carter sunk the second free-throw as well, putting Beloit College up by four points, 70-66.
Great thing Anthony Carter made both free-throws, and the Bucs didn’t foul Millikin’s Lane Thomann on his made three-pointer as the game clock expired, or it may have been an overtime game.
The Buccaneers shot 24-54 (44%) from the field, 11-26 (42%) from the three, and went 11-15 (73%) at the free-throw line.
Beloit College was led in scoring by Semaj Roy’s 19 Pts (6-14 FG, 2-5 3FG, 5-6 FT). Roy also finished with 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.
Anthony Carter finished with 10 points (2-4 3FG, 2-2 FT), 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.
Azeez Ganiyu tallied up 9 points (2-6 FG, 1-4 3FG, 4-7 FT), 8 rebounds, a team-highs 7 assists and 3 blocks, and 1 steal.
Clayton Jenny, Brian Rusch, Dae’Quan Davis each contributed 6 points apiece, while Lathan Lewis and Thomas Glenn both chipped in 5 points.
Lane Thomann led Big Blue in scoring with 21 points. Demarcus Bond and Nate Straughter tallied 12 points apiece.
Next up for the Buccaneers is a home match-up against Marian University, Thursday November 14, 2024 at 5 PM CST.
