This season has been filled with close games for Bay FC, yet the one that stung most was the loss on Friday night against the number one seed in the NWSL standings, the Orlando Pride (15-0-6). Although Bay had plenty of opportunities to score first, the new club still struggles to find a way to finish.
The game felt like it was going to end in a draw, which would be a win for the new club as they would get a much needed point. Compared to the last time these two met, Bay FC looked composed and played aggressively on both sides of the field. They attacked the box and made it difficult for the Pride to score. Until the 84th minute. Barbra Banda split the defenders and sent a header to the bottom right corner, barely within goalie Katelyn Rowlands reach. Banda’s 13th goal of the season ties the club record previously held by her teammate Marta, set in 2017. With four games remaining I’m sure Banda will break this record and replace Marta’s name with her own.

As of today, the playoff race is close. The difference between sixth and eighth place is a mere four points. Bay FC has fallen to the ninth after the matches concluded this evening.
Yet Coach Albertin Montoya is not worried about the standings, he believes Bay may place somewhere between six, seven or eight. Yet if they do meet the Pride again he said, “after tonight bright ’em on. I don’t think they want to face us as much as we want to face them.”
