April 27, San Jose, Ca. – Bay FC pulled away with a point after a difficult match vs the Seattle Reign on Saturday night. The Reign dominated with majority possession around 70%, but coach Albertin Montoya said that was their approach for the first half.
“We conceded possession and we were okay with that, but we knew there was going to be spacing behind, and that’s how we got the goal.”
The solo goal for Bay came from Racheal Kundananji, which was her first of the season. Kundananji said this goal built her confidence for future goals because she is aware of her lack of offense to start the season.
“If I was a coach I would be like she’s not scoring, what’s going on let me find someone to replace her. Now I’ve scored I’m looking forward to scoring more…this is a relief to me from the little pressure I had on myself.”

The Reign tied things up in the second half thanks to a header from Jordan Huitema.
After the goal to tie, coach Montoya said the team changed up their approach and opened things up in hopes for another goal.
Bay had multiple opportunities in the final minutes to hit the net, but the team struggled to execute. In the 89th minute Rachel Hill had the chance to score on the back post but as the goalie slipped defending the ball, so did Hill in an attempt to score.
Last year, Bay would settle for a loss if that was the result but coach Montoya said that is not the same effort they’re expecting from the club this year.
“We expect now to get a point against every single team. That’s their mentality. We know we can play with anyone.”
