So you want to come to the Big House, do you? Michigan hosts Texas this Saturday in one of the many mega matchups we have this college football season. Fresno State put up a fight for a while but we found a way to win and make it look easy. Now we get the new kids to the SEC the Texas Longhorns and all that comes with that these are two of the best programs in the country and one is still on a high from a Natty, and the other is trying to prove they are back and not going anywhere. The first real test of the season is here, many of us when we went down the schedule had this one down as a loss. The big stars are coming out for this one Desmond Howard, Derek Jeter, and Michael Phelps to name a few. A 23 wins in a row at home streak is on the line for the maize and gold.
Davis Warren was so-so in his debut not doing any one thing bad or real good. But I saw NOTHING that makes me feel like this offense is about to pop off and be dangerous. Under 280 total yards is not good enough, but again it was game 1 of the season so I can chill for a bit on that point. This game will tell us a LOT about where Michigan is at this point and what needs to be worked on.
For the Longhorns this game is a chance to show the rest of college football they are the real deal, and need to be looked at as such. If this is true a win in the Big House by double digits says just that in my opinion. The Wolverines need to control this one in true old-school Big 10 fashion. Run, run, run, play action pass repeat. No way a shootout with Ewers and Texas goes in our favor. We do not have the horses to win that way. Pound the rock and keep that Longhorn O on the sidelines, wear out the defense.
The defense also needs to bring its lunch pail and make some plays. A big turnover or 2 could swing the game flipping the field and giving the offense a short field to work with. Getting off the field on 3rd down is a must all of this is easy to write and talk about but much harder to do. Letting a road team build confidence is a no-no and Texas has been in some great road games the last few years.
This game will be like taking the mid-term of a class you forgot to drop before the deadline has passed. What is this team good at? What needs to be improved? And what are we good at? These questions will be answered in this game. The atmosphere will be off the hook but is that enough to get the win? My heart says YES, but if I am a professional I say no we take the L and lose 28-17. #GoBlue follow me on X @JoeCardoso301 to tell me how wrong I am. Enjoy the Saturday slate of games.
