Olivia Miles’ Earns Rookie of the Month, Transition Going Well

The WNBA's newest rising star is already making her presence felt in Minnesota.

Olivia Miles’ transition to the WNBA could not have started much better.

When the Minnesota Lynx selected Miles in the draft, expectations were naturally high. She is joining a veteran-laden roster led by one of the league’s most respected coaches, Cheryl Reeve.  This presents a unique challenge. She needs to earn minutes. She needs to earn trust. There are no free handouts on opportunities.

Yet Miles is exceeding expectations since stepping onto a WNBA floor.

The rookie guard has become a fixture in Minnesota’s rotation.  Miles averages more than 25 minutes per game while routinely finding herself on the court in crucial late-game situations. More impressively, she hasn’t just been along for the ride.  Olivia is often the difference-maker.

Those early contributions have not gone unnoticed.

Miles was named the Kia WNBA Rookie of the Month for May 2026, earning the first league honor of her professional career after a stellar opening month that has quickly established her as one of the brightest young stars in the league.

Through her elite playmaking ability, efficient scoring, and poise beyond her years, Miles has played a significant role in Minnesota’s early-season success. Her impact extends well beyond the box score, giving the Lynx another dynamic playmaker capable of controlling the pace and elevating those around her.

If you need further evidence, look no further than Minnesota’s 7-2 record, currently the best record in the WNBA. What’s even more impressive is that the Lynx have managed that success while navigating stretches without superstar Napheesa Collier.

Miles’ emergence has helped stabilize the team during that period and provided Minnesota with another reliable option in the backcourt. One could even argue that her rapid development has eased some of the pressure surrounding Collier’s return, allowing the Lynx to remain competitive while their franchise cornerstone works her way back.

The rookie has already begun embracing the role Minnesota envisioned when it drafted her, a franchise point guard with the ability to impact winning and captivate fans every time she takes the floor.

Perhaps the most encouraging sign for the Lynx is that Miles is still only scratching the surface. Even Coach Reeve has acknowledged being surprised by how quickly the rookie has adapted to the professional game.

For a player making the jump from college to the WNBA, there is often an adjustment period. For Olivia Miles, that adjustment appears to have come and gone in a matter of weeks.
