As a huge fan of All American, I’m a bit saddened by what is transpiring with Season 6. Although the new season is just one episode in, it seems we’re in for another ride with recycled storylines. The Vortex is still a thing as it should be since that is the core of the show. However, how much longer should we have to endure seeing the same thing year after year and week after week?
The first 5 seasons of All American centered on the growing pains of teens growing up in South Central and Beverly Hills. There were fights, arguments, deaths, and most importantly, relationships. While those storylines have worked in the beginning and middle it’s past time for the writers to come up with some fresh material.
Is JJ In Season 6 of All American
JJ is off the show and has headed to Tibet. The comedic part of All American is no longer there and while his absence is not on the same level as losing Billy Baker, not having JJ around to lighten the mood could be more damaging than anyone thinks.
Asher and Jaymee are now parents with full-time jobs but still living in the beach house. Once again, viewers understand the full aspect of the Vortex but no none seems to be in a hurry to escape it. Hell, it was Jaymee who came up with the name in the first place.
Then you take into account one of the weirdest storylines of them all. Asher, while still friends with Spencer and Jordan, does work for a rival college. How does that even make sense? In an era where sports betting is legal, does anyone not see that the issue here? Didn’t we have a moment where Asher was asked to get a scouting report on them?
Will Coop And Patience Get Back Together
During the first 5 seasons, it was a back and forth between Coop and Patience. Both have embarked in new directions, and yet, here we are starting Season 6 of All American and their storyline has not progressed any. The vortex is rooting for them to get back together and it seems that Coop wants that. But why not leave well enough alone, already? How may times must we keep going down this rabbit hole?
Will Jordan And Layla Get Married
Jordan and Layla are engaged but even after a year and some change since it happened, the wedding is still 2 years away. While their relationship is still new to the viewers, we’ve seen this before from both parties. Jordan is divorced and Layla still seems to be a bit distant. Now, with her new partner in the Lounge, we can already see there might be some sexual tension between them.
Will Spencer And Liv Make It
Then we head to the elephant in the room. The dynamic between Spencer and Olivia. Like come on, how much longer do we have to keep putting up with their back-and-forth nonsense? Either be together or not. They have been through everything and now it’s been a year since they last saw each other, really? As always, we get hit with the ultimate Liv line that she had to find herself. How many times does a person need to see who they are on a show?
Spencer is back to his sulking and worrying too much as usual which has him questioning his position with Liv. We’ve been here before, too many times at that. Why keep dragging this out?
As great as All American has been over the years, it may be time for it to end. It does hurt to see one of your favorite shows fade into the darkness but it hurts even more to see that same show limp to the finish line. They could have easily did a major time jump to adulthood with Season 6 and faced new challenges. But no, they kept the same issues, with the same dynamic, and for that, CW may have damaged the All American brand.
