Billy Baker is a football head all the way through on All American. He loves the sport just as much as he loves his family and now, his worlds are colliding. Grace James gave Billy a piece of her mind but was she out of place? Grace is an educator through and through and she views the world from that viewpoint. Whereas Billy is all football and he sees things from that perspective.
Grace roasted Billy at his house like no one else at the party but there were no jokes involved. What she pretty much called Billy was selfish. Grace feels as if Billy is abandoning the kids at South Crenshaw High as principal if he leaves to take the head coaching job at GSU. Yes, Billy is the hometown kid who made it to the NFL, came back, and is now leading the next generation. However, no matter what happens, his heart is still on the field.
As for Grace, she does have slight point. Billy Baker does love being a principal, but let’s remember, this was a job that Grace sorta forced him into. With GSU under the microscope, Billy went to lobby for his friend to become the head coach. However, the AD didn’t see it that way. He wanted Billy as the new coach and with Spencer still there and Jordan thinking about leaving, Billy believes that he can help rebuild the football program to where it was before the scandal.
In all fairness, neither Grace nor Billy is in the wrong here. Grace is thinking like an educator and so is Billy but in a different type of classroom. He’s always wanted what’s best for Spencer and Jordan and now is his time to coach them at the D1 level. Yes, that’s a dream come true for him but Grace is making him feel guilty about it. She asked him to look after Spencer and with this job, he can continue to do that.
Will Billy Baker Save GSU?
This is the same Grace who got married and moved away from her neighborhood and Crenshaw High. So, for her to throw shade at Billy Baker is a bit condescending. But Billy may be in over his head. Spencer finally found out about Billy becoming the head coach and in typical Spencer fashion, he will blow this up more than it needs to. However, Billy is in a tough situation. He can’t publicly say that he’s the new head coach and the AD is hiding something as well.
Can Billy trust him? Although they do go back, he doesn’t seem to be trustworthy. What did Billy Baker get himself into? All American is all bout wrong choices being made in the heat of the moment but they always seem to work themselves out in the end. Billy asked Barnes if he knew about the bounty but viewers could tell that Barnes was lying. He knows, but what does this mean for Billy and the program?
Billy will have to deal with Spencer and with Spencer always in his feelings as if someone is always lying to him, things will get testy between the two. Let’s get ready for him to cut Billy off for a few episodes before they manage to patch things up again.
