The Alabama Crimson Tide football team is coming off a disappointing National Championship loss to their rivals, the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia defeated Alabama, 33-18. This has been one of the loudest off-seasons for Alabama. Saban said that the Texas A&M Aggies ‘bought’ their entire 2022 recruiting class through NIL deals. This caused Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M’s head coach to fire back and criticize Saban. Since Saban’s arrival, Alabama has had a target on its backs and I expect that to be amplified this season.
The good news for Tide fans is that this team never rebuilds, they re-tool. No matter how many players leave to go to the NFL, Alabama always seems to replace them with equally, talented players.
Alabama On Offense:
Bryce Young could be the best quarterback and player in the country. He threw for 4,872 yards, completed 66% of his passes, and passed for 47 touchdowns with only 7 interceptions. He did this as a 1st-year starter. Georgia Tech transfer running back, Jahmyr Gibbs is set to be the starter this season. Gibbs averaged 5.2 yards per carry in his two-year career for the Yellow Jackets and was a threat in the passing game, catching 60 passes with five touchdowns.
Junior, Jermaine Burton only had 26 catches last season but, he averaged 19 yards per reception and had 5 touchdowns. He could be the next elite WR for the Crimson Tide. LT Evan Neal was drafted in the first round, but this offensive line is filled with athletic road graders. Don’t be surprised if this team relies heavily on their running game even with their Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback.
Alabama On Defense:
Will Anderson Jr. had 17 sacks last season and 34.5 tackles for a loss. He also had 57 solo tackles last year. He is a playmaker that opposing offensives must prepare for. Their defensive line doesn’t have the elite names that we are used to but they are deep and talented and should be able to dominate offenses throughout the season.
Alabama Season Prediction:
Most college football experts talk about the talented players that come to Alabama every year. No one talks about their coaching staff. Their 10 coaches, not including, Bill O’Brien, will make over $8.35 Million this season. Alabama pays their coaches very well and it shows. Saban’s coordinators are often former NFL head coaches. Nick is 70 years old and doesn’t appear to be slowing down. He has said that this 2022 team is a lot of fun to coach. I expect Alabama to have a huge chip on their shoulder after losing to Georgia last season.
If they stay healthy, Alabama will win the National Championship and whoever they play, Alabama should win by double digits. They are that good.
