The New York Jets are relying on Aaron Rodgers this season to get them to the promise land. However, Rodgers is relying more on the Jets to cement his legacy. To put it simply, Aaron Rodgers needs another ring.
We often forget the era that Rodgers played in simply because he’s still playing in the era of Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott, and Lamar Jackson. But truth be told, Rodgers is from the Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees era. That was the era where rings, not yardage, and TDs measured greatness. While Rodgers does have one ring, his legacy is not where the others are, yet. That’s where the 2024 New York Jets come into play.
Aaron Rodgers falls into any QB category with the likes of Brady, Brees, and Manning (Peyton). He has all the accolades and awards that will set him up in Canton but getting another shot at a Super Bowl, well, he needs that for his legacy.
Some may say no. He’s already done enough. But following Rodgers, you know he wants to win. He wants to be separated from others and as it stands, he’s still right there with Brett Favre. Look at their history. Almost identical teams. From the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets. Rodgers has to put some distance between him and his former mentor.
At the age of 40, how many high-level seasons does Rodgers have left? The Jets were built last season for a run and in the first game, he went down. Now, the Jets have their pieces but other teams have improved as well.
Another season of going ringless does what for his legacy? Some may say nothing while others will look and say he should have done more. Brees was a great passer but he often fell short of the ultimate goal. It took Manning (Peyton) countless years to get over that Brady and Patriots hump. Time is running it out on Aaron Rodgers and in the back of his mind, he knows and accepts that. But the end is not here yet. He has time to reach that level.
The million-dollar question is, are the rest of the New York Jets on the same winning timeline that he is? They have said all the right things and made the moves possible to give Rodgers the weapons needed on both sides of the ball. Now, it’s up to him to go out and deliver. And for a QB with his resume, that has come into question more times than we dare to count.
Is This The End For Aaron Rodgers
Does Rodgers have that killer mentality that Brady had? He has the regular season greatness of any QB to ever play the game but we all know that the real test comes playoff time. The Jets took a gamble on Rodgers and counting his injury, so far they have egg on their face. Now, they also may have handcuffed themselves by not having a replacement in place just in case another tragedy happens.
All their cards are on the table face up. The rest of the teams know this is a do-or-die season for them. But with Aaron Rodgers and his finicky ways, if failure happens this season, he could take his time to mull things over and put the Jets in a bad position heading into the 2025 campaign.
And still, this season will come down to what he can do when the elimination games hit. Brady, Manning, and his era of QBs have moved on. They won their titles and walked away. Aaron Rodgers is the last of that tribe. He has at least one more shot to get this done, Canton is waiting, however, the conversation to be paired with the rest of those on this list, well, he has to win at least one more to sit at that table. it’s all or nothing in 2024 for the New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers.
