The WNBA’s trade deadline came and went, but two significant trades came of it. The most notable trade involved the Los Angeles Sparks and the Phoenix Mercury, with Kelsey Plum joining Alyssa Thomas and Kahleah Copper.
As far as the Eastern Conference, the Toronto Tempo made a move, and they acquired Aneesah Morrow. Morrow was the seventh pick of the 2025 WNBA Draft, and she averaged 7.7 points and 6.9 rebounds in her first season.
Morrow Gets A Fresh Start
This year, Morrow got off to an even better start, as she averaged 11.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and a steal in her 20 games with the Connecticut Sun. Now she will play for one of Connecticut’s conference rivals, which is trying to climb the standings.
Currently, the Tempo are one of the seven teams below .500. A recent stretch has put them in this position, as they lost to teams such as the Atlanta Dream, the Las Vegas Aces and the Minnesota Lynx. They have faced tough competition, and their playoff chances are dwindling. Still, the Tempo can recover from the losses and end the season on a decent note.
Toronto’s move makes sense, as the team needs help in the rebounding department. They averaged nearly 31 per game, and there are only two teams that average less. The Sparks average 30.8 rebounds, and the Portland Fire average 29.3. Morrow grabs her share of boards, and chances are, she will be the team’s leader in that area.
Morrow is a solid addition, and the team is taking a step in the right direction. Marina Mabrey is a star, and players like Isabelle Harrison, Nyara Sabally and others put the Tempo in a position to succeed. Then, once Morrow gets comfortable, the team will be even better.
While Toronto’s postseason dreams seem unlikely, the franchise is building something special. Morrow is another piece of the puzzle, and when it’s their time, she and the Tempo will make the playoffs.
